Helen Myers Obituary

Helen Myers

Helen Myers, 81, of Ottawa Hills, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, with her loving daughter by her side. She was born in New York, NY, to John and Mary (Murphy) Lunz on September 25, 1942. After graduating from Dominion School for Girls High School in New York, Helen received her bachelor's degree from the University of Toledo in Childhood Development, mater's degree in Counseling, and she had worked towards her PhD. Helen also taught Psychology and Sociology at U.T. and became a realtor.

Helen loved sailing and was a member of Jolly Rodgers, North Cape Yacht Club at Devil's Lake Yacht Club. She and her husband, William Rogge, once received the Good Citizens Award for rescuing two sailors whose sailboat capsized during a storm.

She spent countless hours knitting for family and friends. As football fans, she and William would travel to Columbus for The Ohio State games and Cleveland for the Browns games, and Helen would happily knit the entire way. Almost everyone received a baby blanket, hat, Christmas stocking, or some other knitted creation to enjoy. She had a goal this year to knit 50 hats for Suzy's Coats, she completed 48 ½. Helen loved to cook and entertain, often hosting parties for family and friends. She held many themed dinner parties and loved having guests come to the lake for a boat ride and an excellent meal.

Helen took an active role in her community; she was President of Ottawa Hills PTO when her children were young, a five-time President of Devil's Lake Ladies Auxiliary, a member of Toledo Metropolitan Luncheon Club, Together Women Rise, the Toledo Symphony League, and a longtime supporter of PEO – Philanthropic Education Organization.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Karen Fischer; son, Charles Giddings; stepchildren, Gretchen Rogge, Mark Rogge; grandchildren, Macey (Zack Cerveny) Fruth, Libby Fruth, Charles Giddings, Jr., Alexandra Giddings, Samantha Giddings; great-grandchildren, Mason Cerveny, Zayn Cerveny; and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Rogge; and son, William Fischer.

Friends will be received on Friday, September 13, 2024, beginning at 9 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155, W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623, where a Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Helen will be laid to rest privately in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Philanthropic Education Organization Chapter AL or Suzy's Coats. Online condolences may be made at walkerfuneralhomes.com.

I remember fondly all the times we'd swap recipes and knitting patterns and talk Ohio State stuff. Your heart was always so huge and I will miss you. It's a privilege being able to call you my friend.

Karen,
I was so sorry to learn of your mom´s passing. I enjoyed her enthusiasm while working on Symphony League projects, including the Community Music Lesson receptions. Her smile and many kindnesses will be missed.
