Herman Kruse Obituary

KRUSE

Herman D.

Herman D. "Dave" Kruse passed from this life on Sunday, November 3, at Sunset Village Nursing home where he had been under care for the past 18 months. He was born July 15, 1930, in Edgerton, Ohio to Jacob Herman and Helen (Buchs) Kruse. Dave graduated from Scott High School in 1948, where he participated in cross country. He married Catherine C. "Kitty" Hoeffel in 1950, and they spent nearly 63 years of marriage together.

Dave enjoyed his career as a journeyman pipefitter, and was a proud member of Local 50. He retired in 1992, and even in retirement continued to march with fellow union members in Labor Day parades. His life's work can be seen in many area construction projects. Over his career he worked on such projects as the Fiberglass Tower, Davis Besse, Fermi 2, Campbell Soup, The Radisson Hotel, Sun Oil and many, many more large buildings and plants. His skills were not limited to pipefitting, as he was very talented mechanically, and often used those skills to help neighbors and friends.

A lifelong gardener, he could grow almost anything, and in his early life he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. In later life those hobbies gave way to a passion for the study of his genealogy. He was able to trace his ancestry back several centuries through extensive study and travel in both the US and in Europe. Dave also enjoyed traveling for pleasure, and took his family on numerous camping trips throughout the US and Canada. An average trip would cover some 5,000 miles or more.

While his children were in school, he was a very active member of Little Flower parish, serving in many different capacities. He also formerly participated in the Cursillo movement, and served on the Diocesan Cursillo Board in the 1970s.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Jim Clare, and son, Matthew. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kitty; sons, Mike (Lyn), Jim (Linda), TJ (Ellen), Sean, and Chris. He is also survived by daughter, Cathie (Jack) Meade; grandchildren, Andy (Megan) Kruse, Aaron Kruse, Sarah (Andrew) Derminer, Amanda (Paul) Dwyer, Peter Kruse, Daniel Meade, Mary (Tom) Szymanski, Lauren Baumert, Ben Meade, Emily Kruse, Lindsay Kruse, Danica Baumert, Abby Kruse; great-grandchildren, Will Dwyer, Claire Dwyer, and Zoe Derminer. He is also survived by his sister, Myrna Kruse, and nephew, Robert (Chris) Kruse.

The family will accept visitors Thursday, November 7, from 2 until 8 p.m. at the Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 N. Reynolds Rd. Toledo, OH 43615 with a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday, November 8, starting at 10 a.m. at Little Flower Church 5522 Dorr St. Toledo, Oh. 43615, where the Mass of Christian burial will commence at 11 a.m.

For those wishing to make a donation in Dave's name, the family suggests Hospice of NW Ohio, Sunset Village or the Little Flower Building Fund.

My sympathy to the Kruse family. I have fond memories growing up down the street and the great conversations with Dave later in life when my family and I moved back into the neighborhood. God Bless.
