Inez Silverman Obituary

SILVERMAN Inez Inez Silverman died peacefully at home, embraced by her loving family, on Friday, May 29, 2009, at the age of 80. Born to Moe and Frieda Okun, she attended Devilbiss High School, Ohio State and spent one year studying in Mexico City. She and Irwin Silverman (deceased) married after college. They had three children: Pete (Marcia), Beth (Tom Gelwicks, Cincinnati), and Ross (Jody, Chicago) and 6 grandchildren: Alex, Elise, Drew, Jake, Sam and Rachel. She had one sister, Lois, who died before her. She started working in the mid 1960's selling residential real estate for Danberry, and grew to be one of Toledo's most successful realtors, regularly making the Million Dollar Roundtable. She played a competitive hand of bridge, enjoyed dancing and having a drink or two, and loved being with friends and family and entertaining them at her home. Margueritas and Mexican food at the Loma Linda was her favorite night on the town. She loved people and she loved life. She was blessed with wonderful life-long friends and a loving circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews that spanned the Kest-Romanoffs, Okuns, and Silvermans. She loved her children and grandchildren, and her favorite times were when she was together with all of them at annual vacations she arranged in Northern Michigan and at Lakeside. Her health faltered the last ten years of her life. She showed exceptional courage in never giving up and in wanting to squeeze out every last precious second of life, wanting to attend each of her grandchildren's bar and bat mitzvas. The family thanks her wonderful caregivers: Hermine, Zuella, Kenny, Lillian, and Shirley; the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, especially her nurse, Helen, social worker, Carol, and Dr. Paul; the caring nurses and social workers at Innovative and Alexis Dialysis; and Dr. Elkhatib. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 31, at Wick-Wisniewski Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Following the funeral and that evening, the family will receive friends at Pete and Marcia Silverman's home, 2663 Barrington Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chabad House of Toledo, Etz Chayim, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or a charity of the donor's choice.

We moved to Toledo in 1968, and thanks to Inez, we bought a home in Lincolnshire. As she told us, it was a great place to raise children. She was a lovely and wise person, and we know that she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Inez found our house for us and did an excellent job; we have lived there for 27 years now. However, she did much more than sell us a house; she also introduced us to the Toledo area, it's people and cultural traditions in a much more personal and detailed way than one might expect from a typical real estate agent. In the end, the best part of working with Inez was getting to know her as a person: warm, witty and insightful. She will be missed.

Dear Peter, Beth, Ross and your families, I was so sad to read of your Mom's passing. Inez was such a wonderful person. Though I haven't lived in Toledo for a long time, I always think of her so fondly. I am very glad that I got to see her the weekend of cousin Richie's birthday celebration.
She had an amazing spirit and was very courageous through her illnesses. I send my love to all of you at this difficult time.
Much Love,
Nancy (Rand) Wise
