POLETES Irene (1928 -2012) Irene Poletes, a lifetime Toledo resident, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2012. Born to Greek immigrants, Irene graduated from Woodward High School and The University of Toledo, where she earned her bachelor's degree in 1950 and her master's degree in education in 1953. She served as chapter president of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. After graduation, she embarked on a long and accomplished career as a schoolteacher, administrator, and school principal. Following her retirement, she served as a student field instructor at Bowling Green University and a member and president of the Flower Hospital Auxiliary Board. Her dedication to teaching was matched by her love of her church, the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where she served as president of the church's Ladies Philoptochos Society and superintendent of Sunday schools. Above all else in her active life, Irene dedicated herself to her loving family. Her role as a tireless caregiver to many family members is a lasting testament to her strength, resilience, and devotion. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, George and Angela, and her brother, James. She is survived by her sister, Stella; her brother, William and wife, Rena; sister-in-law, Tammy, and her many nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces. Visitation on Tuesday, June 19, 2012. from 3-8 p.m. at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 West Sylvania Avenue, with Trisagion service at 7 p.m. Funeral service on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 740 Superior Street. After the funeral service, Makaria memorial luncheon will be served at the church's community center, followed by interment at Toledo Memorial Park. The family requests that contributions in Irene's memory be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
