Jack Kaminsky Obituary

KAMINSKY

Jack 1/18/1921 - 11/4/2014

Jack Kaminsky was born in Toronto, Canada on January 18, 1921. His family moved to Toledo, Ohio when he was a young child, where he graduated from Scott High School. During World War II, he enlisted in the Air Force and after basic training, he was sent to Yale University for officer's training. After completion of officer's training, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and shipped overseas to Italy where he served for two years, working on the Norden bombsight. After the war ended, he was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant.

Upon his return to the United States, he met his beloved Sally and on June 22, 2014, they celebrated their sixty-seventh wedding anniversary.

After the war, Jack and his twin brother, the late Albert Kaminsky, visited Fostoria, Ohio on several occasions, and found it to be a wonderful place to both open a business and raise their families. When a store became available, they opened a jewelry business. His son, Alan, joined his father in the family business, and they worked together for 30 years. That store remained in business for over 60 years until a fire destroyed the city block in which it was located in February, 2008.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Sally; his sons, Dr. David (Elysa) Kaminsky, Rockville Centre, New York, Richard Kaminsky, Evanston, Illinois, and Alan (Teri) Kaminsky, Fostoria, Ohio; as well as grandchildren, Jason, Erin, Alex and Rachel, and great-grandchildren, Addison and Kelsey, who lit up his life. He was predeceased by his brother and three sisters.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Robert H. Wick/Wisnewski Funeral Home, 2426 North Reynolds Road, Toledo, Ohio 43615, 419-535-5840. Services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Beth Shalom Cemetery in Oregon, Ohio.

The family requests that any donations in Jack's memory be made to either Etz Chayim Synagogue, 3853 Woodley Road, Toledo, Ohio 43606, or Bridge Hospice, Blanchard Valley Health Foundation, 1900 South Main Street, Findlay, Ohio 45840.
