James Crumley Obituary

James Lee Crumley

James Lee Crumley, of Toledo, died Sunday at The Toledo Hospital at the age of 88.

He was born in Toledo on June 21, 1929 to Ira and Eilene (Schricker) Crumley.

James was a proud 1947 graduate of DeVilbiss High School. He excelled in all sports, especially in track and field, as he won the state champion title in 1947.

He even qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials, while stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army, during the Korean War. After the war, he loved to visit his Army buddies, especially his friend's farm in Butler, Ohio.

James began his sales career with P.P. & G. and retired from Fred Christen & Son's as vice president after 30 years of service. He continued consulting for various roofing firms in the area after retirement.

James thoroughly enjoyed deer hunting and playing poker with his buddies. He also loved to go fishing with his friends on Lake Erie, winning the Fish Ohio Award. Most recently he fished with his son and daughter in law in Key West, Florida.

Bowling at Westland Lanes in several leagues was part of his enjoyment too as he won many league titles. Jim was also an enthusiastic golfer, hitting a hole in one on his 40th birthday at Byrnwyck CC where he had been a long-time member.

His memberships included the Toledo Exchange Club, where he served as a past president.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Shirley and granddaughter, Jill.

Surviving are his children, James, Thomas (Jeannine), Cathy (Lisa), Mary (Jim) and Cynthia (James); grandchildren, Justin, Alanna, Jennifer, James, Thomas, and Stephanie and great grandchildren, Wes and Diego.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Promedica Toledo Children's Hospital Primary Pediatric Clinic.

Arrangements entrusted to the Foth-Dorfmeyer Mortuary, 3815 Sylvania Ave.

It saddens us to hear of Jim's passing. We looked forward to hearing from Jim on hIs regular phone call, checking to see how we were getting along. Always thought we'd get him back to Florida to sit, relax, and watch all the nature. We had many years of good fun, and will miss his friendship. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Crumley family.

Mr. Crumley was the neighbor everyone hopes to have, he was a friendly person who opened his home to my brothers and I many times growing up and his back yard created many memories for us. He will be missed.

Jim was my uncle. I was born in 58 to his older brother Richard Thomas Crumley. Golf, track, bowling and poker were among dad's favorites as well and I am sure their father Ira Conard Crumley was a big influence. Proud to have Jim and his sister Sally as my relatives. God bless our Crumley family. Love from your nephew, Gary Richard Crumley.

So much love in the Crumley clan! I have great memories of when we were kids of the holidays at your mom and dad's place. rock n roll (thank you JC and Tom)...hide and seek, running around with all the girl cousins, Aunt Shirley's big heart and delicious food, and Uncle Jim's hearty laugh, the parents shooing us outside... I am so glad I had the chance to re-connect in person a few years ago on Kevin's and my Ohio roots tour...It was great to hear about our family's history, and to reminisce about when our Dad,Uncle Jim and Aunt Sally were kids, and when our parents were all young marrieds with kids..Uncle Jim had an infectious laugh, awesome smile and wonderful hug. He would call me every once in a while to see how my family and I were doing. Generous, fun, loyal, kind...and I know that his love for life and his family will continue in our awesome "Ohio cousins"! Big love from
