James Ward Debth
James Ward Debth was welcomed into the arms of his Loving Savior on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the age of 98. He was a beloved husband, wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. Jim was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 13, 1924, to Irma Debth and Harold H. Debth. He resided in Point Place for over 80 years. He graduated from Waite High School in 1942. He was married to his lovely wife, Mickey, for 67 years. They had twins: son, Jim and daughter, Judy.
He was a WWII Veteran who served his country in the Army/Air Corp, 452nd bomb group where he was the radio operator and gunner. He flew 25 missions while being stationed in England and received a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. He also received the "French Legion of Honor" Medal, which he said was not just for him, but for his crew and all who served their country at that time. After his service, Jim worked for the United States Postal Service in several capacities. His last job before retirement was working in the Inquiry and Claims Office where he retired after 35 years. After retirement, he and his wife, Mickey, loved visiting shut-ins and helping others. For several years their treat of the week was to be volunteers every Friday in their daughter, Judy's, second grade classroom at Toledo Christian.
Jim was an active member of Point Place United Church of Christ for over 70 years where he served as Moderator, was on the Board of Trustees, and sang in the choir. He loved his church family and they loved him. A special thank you goes out to Pastor Jon, Chuck and Leslie Geletske, and Jim Armstrong for always being there for Jim and Mickey through their many years of friendship. Jim is remembered by all as a kind and caring person and a great storyteller.
Surviving are his son, Jim (Austin, TX); grandsons, Trent and wife Jana (Texas), Trevor and wife Jennifer (North Carolina) and their mother, Marybrent (Texas); his daughter, Judy and husband Alan (Sylvania, OH); grandson, Jeff Johnson and wife Stephanie (Toledo, OH), granddaughter, Amy Klein and husband Tony (Cleveland, OH), great-grandchildren, Taylor, Grayson, Taryn, and Hazel (Trent and Jana), Natalie and Oliver Debth (Trevor), Benjamin and Samuel Klein (Amy and Tony); great-great-grandchildren, Ellie and Cali (Taylor); sister-in-law, Regina Vandinter; nephew, Tim and wife Barb Debth; nieces, Linda Mahaney, and Debbie Debth.
