James "Jim" McGowan

James Patrick McGowan, age 70, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019 in Maumee, OH, after a long battle with cancer. Jim was born on January 23, 1949 in Toledo, the son of the late John McGowan and Charlotte (Marv) Wilson.

Jim retired from the Treu House of Munch where he worked as a driver for 44 years. Jim loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed attending auto races, snow mobiling, golf, and traveling. His favorite vacation destination was the beach; toes in the sand with a drink in hand!

Jim is survived by his wife of 37 years, Becky; daughters, Melissa (Derryl) Glaze and Meghan; sister, Maureen (Jack) Buczko. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father; brother, John McGowan and great friends, Dean Duncan and Jill Cappelletty.

Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, with a Sharing of Memories Service at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday, August 29, 2019, from 10:00 AM until the time of the memorial service at 10:30 AM. Inurnment will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Heartland Hospice or American Cancer Society. Condolences may be left for the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com

Dear Friends & Family, A short note to pass along condolences for an old friend... Jim & I were classmates @ Start High, but more importantly, we shared working together @ Bischoff's Food Center, in the late 60's. I learned a lot working with Jim, his personality, & salemanship were outstanding... Our paths took different directions after he left the store, but I always remembered how Jim did business, & how he made customers feel welcome & important. So Sorry to hear of Jim's passing. The McMahon Family has very fond memories of Jim and his father Marv, and their White House Creamery on Sylvania Ave. where we spent many good times. We lived on Overland Pkwy and our parents sent us down to their store for cigarettes, with notes from our parents, of course, Hostess Twinkies for dessert, and of course, their famous warm nuts! Jim was a great guy and will be sadly missed. Condolences from Sharon, Brian, Maureen, Gary, Carol, Michael, Kevin, and Judy McMahon.

So sorry to hear and reading of Jim's passing. I was also a classmate of Jim at Start High School. Yes he was always smiling and polite. My sympathy goes out to his wife and family.

What a sad thing to read that Jim is no longer with us. My husband, Tom, and I were in the Start High School class of '67 with him. He was always fun to have around.
Over the years, I would cross paths with him at the Miracle Mile Kroger store when he was making deliveries. Always a smiling face.
