James Storer Obituary

James Michael Storer

06/25/1940 - 09/03/2025

James Michael "Jim" Storer, age 85, passed away on September 3, 2025, in Knoxville, TN. He was born on June 25, 1940, in Toledo, OH, to parents, Alton C. Storer and Helen M. (Cobb) Storer. Jim graduated from Bedford High School in 1958. Shortly after, he enlisted in the Navy, serving from 1959 to 1963. During his naval service, he served aboard the U.S.S. Springfield, and went around the world in 1960 on the U.S.S. Canberra. He joined the Army from 1963 to 1966, where he was stationed at several bases around the world and served in the Vietnam War. After his military service, Jim worked for 30 years at Dana Corporation before retiring. He then spent nine more years at TTC before fully retiring from his career. Some of Jim's favorite hobbies were gardening and traveling. He always cherished reconnecting with classmates at Bedford High School Class of 1958 reunions and stayed in touch with many of them over the years. Jim was also a proud member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton C. Storer and Helen M. (Cobb) Storer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Charlotte M. (Manhart), of Knoxville, TN; his son, James M. Storer, Jr., of Toledo, OH; his granddaughter, Jenna M. Storer, of Columbus, OH; his sister, Claire M. (Storer) Nofsinger, of Marietta, GA; his brother, Allen E. Storer, of Rowlett, TX; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews who live in Germany.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Vietnam Veterans of America for the kindness and support they showed to Jim.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Click Funeral Home, Farragut Chapel, 11915 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37934, with a service to follow. Charlotte--I just heard about Jim. I'm so very sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful man and a great friend to my dad (Bob Reuscher). The world lost (another) great man. You both were so incredible when my father passed away last July. I'm so sorry I didn't get to do the same for you. I'll keep you in my daily thoughts and prayers. My deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Jim was a classmate at Bedford and a great friend. He loved the Navy and his classmates at Bedford. I will miss his occasional phone calls and seeing him at future class reunions. Condolences to his family.
