James D.
James D. Welcheck, 53, of Toledo, went to his heavenly home Friday, March 25, 2016, surrounded by his family and friends. James patiently endured a lifelong battle with Friedreich's Ataxia, a paralyzing disease. He was always cheerful, friendly and good natured. His life was very challenging and he never complained or gave up hope.
James was a graduate of St. John's Jesuit High School of Toledo in 1981, where his outside interests included track and karate. He graduated college in May of 1995 from the Institute of Children's Literature where he fulfilled his talent for writing, specializing in the children and teenage topics, and later completed a teenage mystery novel. His interests were sports, movies and music. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
James was born to Edward J. and Margaret A. Welcheck on December 14, 1962. He is survived by his mother, Margaret A.; and siblings, Margaret M. Martin (Charles O.), Edward C., Veronica E., Jeffrey T., and Michael J. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward J. and a sister, Barbara A. James will be greatly missed; he was an encouragement to others to continue in life being satisfied with what you have and overcoming insurmountable obstacles. Also a special thanks to the nursing and health staff who have helped James over the years. We are thankful to know that he has now been delivered from this mortal suffering and we trust that he has found refuge in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at the W. K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 1, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where visitation will begin after 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Our Lady of Lourdes “We Build” campaign.
