Jane Zohn Obituary

Jane Gomersall Zohn

Jane Gomersall Zohn, age 88, died peacefully in her sleep on August 28, 2021.

Jane was born on December 30, 1932 in Toledo, the second of a loving family of four children, Jonathan Stinehelfer, Julie (John) Sanders and Jim (Ann Marie) Stinehelfer.

Jane was a proud public school teacher. She taught science at Whitmer High School for over 30 years. She retired multiple times, always willing to return to students as a tutor or long term substitute teacher. She earned her undergraduate and multiple post graduate certificates and degrees from The University of Toledo. She was a lifelong learner and voracious traveler who loved to share her unique experiences with her students. She took students to the district and

state science fairs, she mentored new teachers, many who still call her a friend, and served on multiple committees during her time at Whitmer. She was awarded the Teacher Association of Washington Local Schools Teacher of the Year Award.

She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was involved with Camp Imagine, served on the vestry and enjoyed adult education with her husband, Al Zohn. She was an active member of Phi Delta Kappa, an educational fraternity, and an officer in PEO. She had a love of the outdoors and hiking with family and friends. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge with a loyal group of friends.

Jane is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ward; and son, William Gomersall; her daughter-in-law, Shannon Moritz; her step-daughter, Beth Zohn; and step-son, Jerry Zohn; grandchildren, Brandon (Lindsey) Ward, Jonathan (Bruna Frassi) Ward, Thomas Ward, Amber (Kevin) Mires, Brian Gomersall, Justin (Monika) Zohn, Stephen (Laura) Zohn, and Erik Zohn. She also has many nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Johnathan and Elsie (Elmer) Stinehelfer; her first husband, Brand Gomersall (who passed in 1981); and her second husband of 13 years, Alvin Zohn.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home (3219 Tremainsville Road, Toledo, OH). Funeral service will be on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St Andrews Episcopal Church (2770 Central Avenue, Toledo, OH).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made for the Science Memorial Scholarship, something Jane has supported in the past. Checks can be made out to The Whitmer Science Club and sent to Whitmer High School, in care of Bernadette Terry, 5601 Clegg Drive, Toledo, OH 43613.

I met Jane only a few times, after her marriage to Dr. Zohn; but I always admired her for the gracious way she built their marriage. May the family find comfort in their sorrow.
