Jennifer SUGG Obituary

SUGG Jennifer Marie On December 6, 2010, God took his angel Jennifer Marie Sugg, 31, a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend back into His loving arms. Jennifer passed away peacefully in her West Toledo home, surrounded by family. Jenny was born to David and Teresa (Heuker) Brickner on April 16, 1979, in Defiance, Ohio. Jenny graduated from Christ the King Elementary, Central Catholic High School (1997) and the University of Toledo with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education (2000). Jenny's love of teaching opened her to opportunities to educate and develop lifetime relationships in both Toledo and Cleveland, OH. Jenny was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer 3 1/2 years ago - working toward finding a cure and raising breast cancer awareness became her immediate goal. Jenny never asked "Why Me?" Instead, she went straight to work on helping others fighting cancer, and working towards a cure. She wrote a book, titled A Mommy Can Love You from Anywhere for her two children. Jenny was involved with Stewart's Caring Place in Akron, OH as well as the Victory Center in Toledo, OH. Jenny was active with the Northwest Ohio Branch of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Her Race for the Cure team, Expecting Miracles, set records year after year, including largest team in Northwest Ohio race history. She spoke at high schools and events in the Toledo area to share her journey and encourage early detection. Jenny's journey has been featured on multiple TV stations and in multiple newspapers in Ohio. Jenny most enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her two children. They loved to dance, sing, paint pottery, and make memories. She also loved scrapbooking, traveling, playing cards, the Dallas Cowboys, the Ohio State Buckeyes and being at her Grandpa Brickner's cottage on Lake Vineyard. She encouraged people to "Expect Miracles" and "Dance in the Rain". Jenny was an angel on Earth, and she touched thousands over her short life. Left to cherish Jenny's memory and carry on her fight are her husband, Michael Z.; son, Jonathon and daughter, Samantha; parents, Teresa and David Brickner; sister, Amy; brother, Ryan and soon to be sister-in-law, Valerie; mother and father-in-law Barbara and Michael W. Sugg; sister-in-law, Kendra (Mark) DeBruine and sister-in-law, Laura (Thomas) Samson; grandparents, Harold and Eileen Heuker and Richard Brickner; Goddaughter, Megan; Godson, Zach, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and family. Preceding her in death is her grandma, Marcella Brickner. The family will receive guests Thursday, December 9th, from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. and 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo (west of Corey Rd.) (419-841-2422). Funeral services will be Friday, December 10th at 12 p.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, with Father William Rose presiding. Burial services will be at Toledo Memorial Park. The family requests that any donations be made to the Expecting Miracles Scholarship at Central Catholic High School in Toledo, which Jenny established to help children who have lost their mother to breast cancer. Jenny has definately not "lost the battle" with cancer. In fact, she looked it right in the eye and gave it a big punch - right in the nose. Go Jen! She gave our support group momentum and many laughs. Sweet Jenny, enjoy your cancer-free body!

Mr.& Mrs. Brickner, Amy, Ryan and the rest of the family,
It seems like just yesterday we were waiting for the school bus to go to CK and cheerleading in your back yard. I remember that Jenny was always smiling and laughing! She was one of the happiest people I knew. Jenny's inspiration, courage and strength will never be forgotten. She is such a role model and an angel of love to us all. You are all in my thoughts.

Sending our prayers for Jenny in heaven, and the family left to miss her. I can't imagine the impossible strength to inspire so many when faced with something such as cancer. I admire Jenny's courage and pray for Mike and the kids to find comfort in each other and in God.

On behalf of Mrs. Rogers and myself, we extend our condolences. We regret that we were not fortunate enough to know Jenny well, but Mrs. Rogers has lived next door and I have lived across the street from Jenny and her family for the past 2 ½ years. During these past 2 ½ years Jenny and her family have touched our lives by just being in the neighborhood as we knew from the beginning of her situation. We understand that she was a remarkable person who we all should try to emulate. We will continue to keep all of you in our prayers. If there is anything either of us can do, please don’t hesitate to knock on our door. God’s blessings, Marian Rogers and Anna Vincent

I met Jenny at the Victory Center in a support group that she championed. I was struck by her peacefulness and smile despite her grim diagnosis. I left there and thought about her, told my family about her and will never forget her. Thank you for teaching me a lesson about the value of life and how to live in the moment. You reiterated the fact that cancer doesn't discriminate and how to live happily with it. I pray for your children and husband who face the daunting task of life without you. May God bless them and keep them in his hands.

I met Jenny on her first visit to Stewart's Caring Place in Akron. You could see and feel the beauty of her soul. My mother had breast cancer when I was born back in 1947, I have had it and so has my oldest daughter so we are not strangers to this disease. I had so hoped that Jenny would get the years that my mother did, but that was not to be. Just know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Jenny will be missed!!!

I have so many memories of growing up with Jenny and all her cousins at the lake. We always had such fun and Jenny was the best at Jump roping. This past summer as I watched Sammy play with Isaiah in the sand box it brought back such good memories and I hope that our kids continue to make such fun memories. Jenny was such a strong, loving person and she will be greatly missed.

To Mike and the rest of the Sugg and Brickner families,
At a time like this, we are at a loss for words to express our condolence to someone who has lost a loved one.
How to say it to bring comfort?
How to say that we care?
How to say that we understand?

It will be the little things that you will remember, the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter. And although it may seem hard right now, it will be the memories of these little things that help to push away the pain and bring the smiles back again.

I am so grateful and blessed to have known Jenny; I will never forget her or the lessons she has taught me, especially in the last few years. She turned this "negative" into one of the most positive things I have ever bore witness to, and that will stay with me forever. Her battle was unbelievable, yet reminded me to believe again. God bless you all and may she get some well-deserved rest.

With Utmost Sympathies,
Sara & Kenny

Our deepest sympathys to the entire Sugg Family. May Jennifer forever rest in peace.

I said a prayer for you today
and Iknow God must have heard
I felt the answer in my heart
although He spoke no words.
I didnt ask for wealth or fame
and I knew you wouldnt mind
I asked Him to send treasures
of a far more lasting kind.
I asked for happiness for you
in all things great and small
but it was for His loving touch
I prayed the most of all.

Mike and Family,

I want to say that Jenny(Mrs. Sugg)was a very sweet person that will be missed by a lot of people across the world. Her love for her family was well known and expressed.
