John W.



John W. Ansted, 76, of Toledo, OH and Sarasota, Fl passed away March 12, 2014, in Florida. He was born October 4, 1937, in Toledo, to Kenneth and Margaret (Growden) Ansted. He graduated from Whitmer High School in 1955. John began his working career at Ansted Marine and also Lion Store Westgate. He worked as a maintenance planner at Sun Oil for 26 years retiring in 1992. John was then employed with British Petroleum until 2012. He gave of his time and volunteered as American Red Cross Shelter Manager, was a Pharesis Donor and was involved with Hurricane Andrew Manning Food Truck through the American Red Cross. John enjoyed reading the newspaper, dining out, (especially at Shorty's Bar B Que), and the beach. He enjoyed seeing babies and was always able to calm them if they were being fussy.

John married Sharon Taylor in 1979 and together they enjoyed 34 glorious years.

Left to cherish John's memory are his wife, Sharon Ansted; daughters, Jody (Bob) Long, Jamie (Dean) Mitchell, Jill (Brian Peters) Ansted, Julie (Jim) Scott; sons, Jon (Becky) Ansted, Joel Maedel, Shawn Ansted; sisters, Marylyn (Gordon) Gosh; Mary Katherine Bieszcad; brothers, Richard (Carolyn), James (Sharon), David, and Robert (Chris) Ansted; 15 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jan Ansted; brothers, Kenneth Burton and Daniel Ansted.

Friends may gather at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, OH, Thursday, June 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. where memorial services will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Those wishing to give a memorial in lieu of flowers are asked to consider the American Diabetes Association.

Hello, as the son of former neighbors, I thank your Dad for being a good neighbor and the times he cleared snow from the sidewalk. That was generous, and he kept his cars mightily clean, too!
