John CHIAPPORI Obituary

CHIAPPORI John "Chip" John "Chip" Chiappori, age 89, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at The Sunset House in Toledo. Chip was born May 20, 1921, to Joseph and Elvira (Cechetto) Chiappori in Chicago, Illinois. He attended grade school and high school in Illinois until he moved to Ohio to enroll in college at Miami University in Oxford. Chip attended Miami University and it was during this time that he enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corp for four years. While in the military he earned the title of Sergeant. Following his time in the military, Chip returned to Miami University where he was one of the founding members of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. In early 1948 Chip graduated from Miami University with a B.S. in Accounting. After graduating he married Alice (Darr) Chiappori on March 20, 1948 in Toledo at Hope Lutheran Church. Chip worked as an accountant for the IRS and most notably, for Nicholson Concrete for 20 years. Over the years he completed tax returns for many people in his own home. Chip was an avid bowler; he and his wife enjoyed 30 years of bowling together in various leagues throughout Toledo. They also enjoyed Western Square Dancing for 20 years where they had made many friends. Another favorite past time that Chip enjoyed was traveling throughout the United States by car with his wife. Many trips were made to California to visit family and Chip especially enjoyed the trip to Italy and cruise to Alaska that he and Alice had made. Chip is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Alice (Darr) Chiappori; daughter, Kathy (Mark) Foletta and children, Lindsay and Hannah of California and daughter, Linda (John) Jones and son, Nicholas of Toledo. The family will receive guests Monday from 10:00 a.m. - Noon at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Monday at Noon in the funeral home. Interment will follow Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The family would like to specially thank Sunset House for the loving care and support they provided to John.
