John Herbert Obituary
December 3, 1923 - August 31, 2021
John "Jack" Wallace Herbert, of San Diego, CA. Jack Herbert passed away August 31, 2021 following a brief illness. Jack was born in Columbus, Ohio. Jack graduated from Columbus North High School and the Ohio State University with a degree in ceramic engineering and was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Jack served in General George Patton's Third Army as an infantryman in the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed for over twenty-five years by the Libby Owens Ford (LOF) glass manufacturer in Toledo, Ohio where he rose to the office of Vice President. He was instrumental in LOF's relationship with General Motors. Jack retired from LOF in 1988 and subsequently settled in San Diego. Jack was a golfer, a talented bridge player, and a devoted Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
He married Elizabeth Campbell in 1947 and they had one child, John C. Herbert. He married Charlotte Dimmer Mason in 1973.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Ward, James, Josiah; and his sister, Rachel.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; son, John; daughter-in-law, Janet Herbert; grandchildren, Jennifer Credeur, Vanessa Herbert, and Allison Herbert; great-grandchild, Laurel Credeur; and two step-children, Tracy Doller and Greg Mason.
