John Jones Obituary

John E. Jones

John E. Jones, born April 24, 1938, died on August 9, 2024. He was born in Toledo to parents, Clarence and Margaret Jones.

John attended DeVilbiss and Scott High School as well as University of Toledo. He worked for Columbia Gas of Ohio, Inc. for 34 years, retiring in 1993 as a commercial marketing representative. John was very active in the community as a past member of Toledo Chamber of Commerce and as chairman of the Membership Committee. He also was a past member of the Northwest Ohio Restaurant Association and served two terms on the board of directors. He was awarded the purveyor of the year award twice for excellent service to this industry. John was a past member of the West Toledo Exchange Club and served as account executive and other committees for the United Way.

John was a member of Regina Coeli Parish and their Holy Name Society and had previously been a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sylvania, Ohio.

While John lived most of his life in Toledo, he also spent 21 years in Florida. He was a past member of Toledo Aerie #197 and was a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus of Naples, FL and the Toledo, OH council 3122. John was an avid bowler and golfer, and even scored a hole in one at Gateway Country Club in Naples, FL.

One thing that could be said about John was that he enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a friend to everyone he met and had a large sense of humor. He loved his wife, Leona "Lee" Jones dearly, and was married for 60 years until Lee's passing in 2022.

After Lee passed John moved to The Crescent, where not only did he find a home, but the friends he made there became family.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret E. and Clarence K. Jones; and siblings, Robert (Terry) Jones, James Jones, Barbara Rosenberger, and Ruby Cogswell. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Marcia Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, OH, on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Services will be private.

Sorry to hear about John Jones. I worked with him at Columbia Gas and also waited on he and Lee at HJ's Prime Cut on Alexis Road. They always loved the langostino HJ's served and started off with that. Have not seen him in years but he was always fun to be around. Jeannie Netry

My cousin John..Loved to go over to Aunt Margaret's house as a child. John had this electric football game and we would have so much fun playing the game together. John and my husband Rich both worked at Columbia Gas Company for many years together. He was one of a kind. All most all of my first cousin's on the Cashman's side of family have passed away. May John rest in peace.
