John Loo Obituary
John C. Loo, 96, of South Toledo, passed away on March 14, 2025, in the Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 15, 1928, in Canton, China, to Frank Jung Chin Loo and Kin Oi (Lee) Loo. He came to the U.S. in 1952 and ranked as a Specialist Third Class in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving as part of the U.S. peacekeeping force in Austria. Prior to his passing, he was a member of the Korean War Veteran Association. John was formerly the president of the Yee Hing Hong Association for over 30 years.
John was a Chef at the former Surf Supper Club for 19.5 years before moving on to becoming a restaurateur of Loo's Dinette, which was his life dream. There, he worked for 10 years alongside his wife and children until retiring in 1987. During retirement, John traveled with his wife, family, and friends, but he continued to work at various local eating establishments, including hotel restaurants and medical facilities. He enjoyed weekly dance lessons, tai chi, and playing mahjong with his friends at a local senior group.
John is survived by his wife of 75 years, Sue (Poon) Loo; daughters, Jacqueline (John) Worth, Florence (Christopher) Solomon; sons, Donald (Jennifer) Loo, Larry (Tracy) Loo, Raymond (Rose) Loo, Arthur Loo, Edmund (Nellie K.) Loo; grandchildren, Angela (Eric) De Cordova, Melissa Loo, Alexia Shrout, Bethany Franks, Chelsi Soley, Christopher (Alisha) Loo, Tiffany (Joseph) Howard, Jade (Caleb) Klugh, Miranda Skirvin, Jason Loo, Michael Loo, Samantha Solomon, Cassandra Solomon; great-grandchildren, Charlotte De Cordova, Skyler Shrout, Donovan Shrout, Tegan Shrout, Charleigh Franks, Lucian Franks, Ezra Franks, and Annie Klugh.
The family will receive visitors at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, located at 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd. at Byrne Road, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., where services will be held on March 26, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Yee Hing Hong Association or to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo.
