John Piehl Obituary

PIEHL John A. Sr. John A. Piehl, Sr. died Friday, September 28, 2007, at home. He was born July 7, 1931, to Augustave John Albert and Nellie Virginia Baugess Piehl who predeceased him. John served his apprenticeship tool and die maker at Willys Overland. He worked at Tillotson Carburetor, Energystics and the "Jeep" plant over many name changes. He was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church -serving on the Board of Trustees and teaching 6th grade Sunday School for many years. He served as a Junior Achievement advisor for several years. John was a 50 plus year member of the Masons-belonging to Northern Light Lodge #40 F & AM and Ft. Miami Calumet Chapter. John thoroughly enjoyed woodworking and was an excellent craftsman creating everything from Christmas ornaments to furniture. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beatrice J. "Bea"; sons, John A. "Jack" (Dorothy "Cookie") of Powell, OH, Michael E. (Jeri) of Maumee, and David A. (Jane) of Medina, OH, and daughter, Diane L. (Ronald) Ley of Sylvania. He was extremely proud of his 13 grandchildren, Alex, Jodie, Ian, Molly, Lyndsey, Kellye, Courtney, Wesley, Madeline, Sam, Ben, Adam and Matthew. He is also survived by a sister, Imogene (Charles) Jones of Troy, MI and a brother, Daniel R. (Gwen) Piehl of Milton, WI. Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey), and at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4030 Douglas Road, after 10 a.m. Monday where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Marilynn Schroeder and Pastor Ruth Floyd officiating. Burial will be at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania OH. Northern Light Lodge will conduct Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. The family asks that memorials be given to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The family wishes to thank Dr. Paul Schaefer and the oncology staff at Toledo Clinic and the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.walkerfuneralhomes.com
