A little tease, a quick quip or a funny story from childhood...Uncle John will be missed. I charish the memories of growing up on the eastside with Uncle John & Aunt Mary Lou as my second parents, the ones with the car, and Uncle John sharing his humor with all of us...Alaskan canned air & moose nugget cufflinks.

I grew up in the northend of Toledo. I became friends with John and his brother Bill at an early age. We didn't have a lot of money but we had strong friendship that lasted over all these years. We managed to enjoy ourselves through sports at Riversid park and Thompson's basketball court on Buckeye street. John like the rest of the guys always had a humorous story to make the group laugh.
we'll miss you John, but won't forget you

I grew up in the North End. I was fortunate to have John as a friend. The boys in our neighborood didn't have much money but we had deep friendship for each other. Our days were spent playing sports and laughing. Those were some happy times on Galena St. Riverside park and Thompson' basketball court. I'll always remember you, John my friend

Mrs. Shuff...I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. I worked with John at Sears/Woodville Mall in the early 70's. He was a great role model and provider of some sound advice to a young college kid.

Mary Lou,
I am sorry for your loss. I know the two of you went through a lot of things. I know it is difficult but, when your down remember all the good times and the wonderful life that you enjoyed. This is a time of celebration, celebrate the life of you husband. Just think of all the lives and hearts that he touched. There is a little bit of him in each and everyone of those people. Remember this and look for the joy and know that John is well and whole. His is no longer in any pain or suffering, let this give you and your family peace.

Everyday I check the Toledo Blade and the obituary column to find out if any of my friends or classmates who I may not have stayed in touch with over the years may have passed away. Today I saw the featured article on John Shuff and the name held a memory for me. After reading he had attended Woodward High School I went to my year book and there was his Senior year photo. I remember John and extend my sympathy to his wife and family. What a grand life he had and what a truly dedicated worker, husband and father was he. Jamie Farr, classmate of John.

To My Dearest Uncle John,
Whenever I hear the Poem "Oh Captain my Captain" I always thought of you. When our Father died in 1969 he left your sister Mary Ellen and 9 Children ranging from 7yrs. to 18 yrs. You always were there to steer the ship straight again. You and Aunt Mary Lou and children never had it easy, you suffered also. Never did you ever not forget us. Instead of 5 children you had 14. I feel as if I lost a Father again and it is heartbreaking not only for Aunt Mary Lou, Charles, GG, Sal, Gib, but all of us Simon's especially my Mom. I can never thank you for your love and support you have shown your entire family. I will always remember you, Aunt Ruth and Aunt Mary Lou. I will think of you daily of you as I do Neal, Rita and my Father, Aunt Ruth. We will all be together again. Love Kathy
