John Yoder Obituary

YODER John Franklin John Franklin Yoder, 73, passed away on November 11, 2008, at his winter home in Mililani, Hawaii. He was born in Holgate, Ohio on February 5, 1935, the son of the late Loran and Vera (Schelling) Yoder. John is survived by his wife, Geraldine Phillips Yoder of fifty-three years. He is also survived by his children, John Scott Yoder of Holland, John Stewart Yoder of Tampa, Florida, John Shane (Anissa) Yoder of Temperance, Michigan, Johnna Sheri (Randy) Harper of Holland, John Samuel Yoder of Bay City, Michigan and daughter-in-law, Connie Yoder. Papa John will be terribly missed by his grandchildren, Yvonne (Jason) Stefanski, Wyatt Yoder, Olivia Yoder, Ky Harper, Kolina Harper, Evan Yoder, Jacob Sherwood, Kaden Harper, Shane Yoder Jr., Remington Yoder, Kiana Yoder, and one great-grandchild John Brody Stefanski. Grand memories of attending races, ball games, horse shows and playing cards with Papa will live in our hearts forever. Also surviving are his siblings, Lowell (Marylin) Yoder, Jean Tilton, Marel Harris, Paul (Joan) Yoder, Lester (Martha) Yoder, Lois Gerken, and Sharon (Everette) Wyse. John was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his son, John Stephen Yoder. John founded J & G Industries in 1976, and continued working until his passing. He also invested in commercial and industrial real estate in Toledo as well as various locations in the United States. John was known for his love of dirt late model and sportsman racing. He recently provided the opportunity for several children to take part in racing at his local track. Many will remember John driving through the pits each and every Saturday night on his golf cart. Anyone who knew John, would agree he was "Bigger Than Life". Visitation will be held at Angola Gardens, 7001 Angola Road in Holland, Ohio on Thursday, November 20, 2008 from 5-9 p.m. as well as Friday, November 21st from 12-3 and 5-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Holland Gardens, 6530 Angola Road in Holland, Ohio, with Pastor Steve Nelson, officiating. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Living Faith United Methodist Church. Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon has been entrusted with local arrangements. Mrs.Yoder,& family
Myself & family are thinking of you and are in our prayers. Scott a thought for you is, I remember in Fla.the first time I met your dad at the race track,it was real cold, and he told you to sit he front of him, and he took the blanket he was sitting on and put it around you and held you in his arms to keep you warm, and said thats my son. Then laughed at me for buying a $30,00 pair of socks to keep my feet warm. Keep that thought in your heat scott.

Dear Geri,
Thank you for sharing with me the story of how you and John met. Fifty-three years and you tell it like it was yesterday.
I smile when I remember how he would call for you from the kitchen..."Gera-DEEN!" Then grin at us.
I hope your memories of that lifetime of love will help you through this tough time.
