Joseph BOYD Obituary

BOYD Joseph R. Joseph R. Boyd, was born in 1932 to parents Joseph and Theresa (Leivers) Boyd, and lived nearly all his life in Toledo. He passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Liberty Assisted Living, Chardon, OH, where he had resided since 2009, and was given wonderful care. Joe took pleasure in sitting on the porch with other residents. While still attending DeVilbiss High School, Joe worked at the former Willys Overland, currently Jeep. After discharge from the United States Army during the Korean War, Joe returned back to Toledo and began a career with Ohio Bell. He enjoyed his work as repairmen, never minding the bitter cold, wet or hot weather. He retired after 38 years of service. He married Noreen in 1956, and they enjoyed 50 years together before she passed away in 2006. They grew up on the same street. The family enjoyed many summer vacations at Higgins Lake, MI and traveling the United States driving to various National Parks. His favorites were Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park but included Glacier, Rocky Mountain, Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, and in Canada, Banff and Jasper National Parks. In later years he and Noreen spent part of each fall in Myrtle Beach, SC with shorter excursions to Michigan and elsewhere. While he never developed a hobby, he did enjoy talking with people wherever he went. Joe is survived by his daughters, Patti (Bryan) Davis, of Bloomfield, NJ and their children, Samantha and Jack, and Kim (Robert Manley) Boyd of Chagrin Falls, OH; brother, Alfred Boyd, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Boyd. Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home 5712 N. Main St. Sylvania, OH, Friday March 30, 2012, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Graveside Services will begin Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., at Toledo Memorial Park. Those wishing to give memorials, in lieu of flowers, are asked to consider the American Diabetes Association or the Lucas County Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Joe and I met at Devilbiss High School, graduated together in l951. We became reacquainted again when I stopped to visit my friend Barb Crowner at a Central Avenue care facility and Noreen was her room mate. Joe and I had a big reunion. Later we stopped at Reeb Funeral Home, paid our respects and met Joe's family including Patti, who was a student at Deveaux School in the late 70's and remembered my wife Jan who was the assistant principal at that time. Then in early 2007 Joe and I met, enjoyed a two hour breakfast together at the Cafe Marie on Central Avenue. Great conversation and I always liked Joe, big guy, laid back, friendly, always very positive. God bless Joe!! I will never forget him!

Kim & Patti, I can't tell you how often I think of your mom and dad. We have such fond memories of them living next door and miss them dearly. They definitely had a huge impact on our lives and with Mike, Tim & Katie growing up. You were truly blessed to have such wonderful parents!
