Joseph Jaros Obituary

JAROS

Rev. Joseph P.

Reverend Joseph P. Jaros, a Toledo Diocesean Priest since 1956, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at the Ursuline Center in Toledo, Ohio after serving the Toledo Catholic Diocese for 59 years.

He was born on September 29, 1930, in Toledo to Joseph G. and Anna (Martis) Jaros. He grew up in the Parish of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, Rossford and attended Good Shepherd Elementary School, Toledo. He entered Saint Meinrad Minor Seminary, Indiana at the age of 13 and continued his studies at Mount Saint Mary Seminary in Cincinnati where he completed his theological studies in 1956. He was ordained on May 26, 1956, at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, Toledo, Ohio by the Most Reverend George J. Rehring, DD. In the early years of his ministry he served as Parochial Vicar at St. John the Baptist, Toledo (1956-1967), Immaculate Conception, Ottoville (1967-1968) and St. Charles Borromeo, Lima ((1968-1969). He served as Pastor at Immaculate Conception, Marysdale and St. Stephen, The Bend (1969-1971), St. Boniface, Oak Harbor (1971-1976), St. Vincent de Paul, Toledo (1976-1985), and St. Mary, Assumption (1985 - 1990). He was Parochial Administrator of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Berkey (1988), Parochial Vicar of St. Charles Borromeo, Lima (1990-1991) and Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus, Toledo (1991-1996). He also served as a Judge of the Court of Second Instance for the Diocese of Toledo Tribunal and Dean of the former Will-Ful-L Deanery, Appellate Judge, Toledo for the Diocese of Cleveland, Moderator for the Toledo Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (1971-1981) and Pro-synodal Examiner and Parish Priest Consultor, and served as a member of Diocesan Consultors for a 3 year term. Fr. Joe entered senior status in 1996. In retirement he continued to serve the diocese as a mission homilist and provided Sacramental Ministry to Little Sisters of the Poor, Toledo Hospital, Mary Immaculate School, Lial School, and the Catholic War Vets. He would also accommodate his fellow priests in any capacity needed.

Fr. Joe was an avid fan of Notre Dame, Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed golfing with his fellow priests and most of all spending time with his family. Over the years he stayed in touch with the members of his eighth grade class and they recently had a reunion at the Ursuline Center with 15 of his classmates attending.

Left to cherish his memory is his brother, James (Shirley) Jaros of Brooklyn, MI; his sister, Joanne (Dennis) Siefke of Graytown, OH, and dear friend, Sister Ann McManus, OSU. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends may visit at All Saints Catholic Church, 628 Lime City Rd., Rossford, Ohio on Thursday, August 6, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The Right of Reception of the Body will be at 2 p.m. and Vespers will be at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, August 7, 2015, beginning at 9 a.m. in the church until 11 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the Church with Monsignor William J. Kubacki, Vicar General officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Toledo. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Rd., Rossford, OH. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the Ursuline Center and all of the Sisters for the special care given to our brother and uncle. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Priest's Retirement Fund of the Toledo Diocese or the Ursuline Center. To leave online expressions of sympathy for Fr. Fr Jaros, thank for your faithful service. I've had both the pleasure of having you as our parish priest and working with you at Toledo Hospital. You truly had the calling. Rest in Heaven.

Father Jaros was an example to me when I was in the seminary. He always made time for me, took me to his favorite restaurants, and came to our home to visit. He kept up with me over the years since he was in Oak Harbor, and I know many people who have great admiration for the work he did there as pastor. I saw him recently and we talked about his time in Oak Harbor and many other things. He was always in good humor and always asking about one's family and friends. What a wonderful priest, beloved and blessed with a life of happy ministry. I will surely miss him.

I have know Fr. Jaros since I was 14 years old. He was like a dad to me, and we stayed in contact throughout the years sharing life and the love of Christ. He was always in my heart and prayers and I loved him like a father(dad). I am thanking God for such a beautiful person that is as close to Christ like then anyone I have ever met. I know heaven is rejoices that a son has come home. I will always love this gentle bear and will always be grateful for his kindness to me. He is my family. I know he will be enjoying heaven in all it's glory. My heart is broke yet my heart is happy that he isn't suffering. He loved life. I am 53 years old, he has been 39 years in my life. I love you Fr. Jaros. And I will see you again, in our father's house.

Our prayers go out to all members of Father Jaros family. We got to know him before he was ordained and he was a good friend of the family. We almost got to be his first wedding but the pastor at St John the Baptist came first. God bless the kind and gentle man.

Father Joe was the sweetest, kindest, gentlest person & priest I had ever met. He was the pastor at St.Vincent De Paul where my mom, Rosie Curley, was a long time member. Plus he was the brother of my dear long time friend Joanne Jaros. Whenever I would see him (while visiting my mom) we would talk about Joanne & the family. My mom & the St. V's ladies used to go visit Father Joe after he retired. He had a heart of gold. Yes, we will miss this very loving & spiritual man. Peace, Prayers & Love to the family of Father Joe.

Fr. Jaros is a legend in my family having been very close to my grandmother, Kahleen, and having baptized and married the majority of our family members. He is the man who introduced me to Christ's love and I know he is safe in God's hands. My deepest sympathy, love and prayers to his family.

Father Joe,

you were a great Uncle and Priest and true example to us all. We will miss you but are better because of our "relationships in life with you". As you would say, life is relationships, someone cares for you....and someone is there for you. You were there for us. Rest in Peace!

Our family truly will miss this giant of a man. I looked forward to his calls for an alter server. He always called my Grandma Boomer who would make sure I was dressed and ready to go when needed. He was always there for the community with servers in tow, weddings, births, last rites....we have lost a great spiritual leader.

August 4, 2015

Fr. Jaros was truly a humble man and wonderful spiritual Father. Weather attending our families funerals, wedding, sacraments, graduations,or joining my Dad for a beer and Tiger's game on the front porch, Father wasn't just a priest but part of our families at St Vincent De Paul. God bless. The Zakrzewski Family.
