Joseph King Obituary

Joseph Anthony King

Joseph "Joe" Anthony King, 76, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. He was born in Toledo to his late parents, Edward and Lizzette (Schmitt) King, where he grew up alongside his seven siblings. Joe graduated from Start High School and later obtained a bachelor's in accounting from the University of Toledo. In high school, Joe was first employed at Kroger as a bagboy where he made friendships that lasted a lifetime. It was undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable places for them to have worked. After graduating college, Joe began his professional career at Toledo Edison and later at Harbor Fund as a compliance officer, where he retired after a successful career.

Family was the focus and most important aspect of Joe's life. He had the most special relationship with his two daughters, Julie and Cheryl, and was the most beloved father whom they never wanted to disappoint. He admired being a part of their lives and supported them in their wide array of passions. He was blessed with six grandchildren and being a grandfather was his greatest source of joy. Everyone was endeared by Joe, but his grandkids were simply enamored by him. His quick-wit sense of humor captivated many and his collection of dad jokes was always expanding.

Joe was notorious for always being on the move and bopping around from place to place. As a total history buff, he loved to take day trips in his free time and drive around to various historical sites that he read about. He had an impeccable memory and one of his favorite topics was the mafia, to which he was willing to educate anyone and even lead friends on Gangster Tours through Chicago. He took many trips around Michigan, loved going to Mackinaw Island and Florida with his girls, and sought out lighthouses and old schoolhouses wherever he went. He loved Elvis and everything about cars, and took care of his "souped-up" black '57 Chevy with diligence. He even traveled the infamous Route 66, visiting many sites along the way.

Joe had a calm, peaceful demeanor and loved to share his wisdom by affectionately lecturing those dearest to him. He had advice for all and was truly a man who was there for those most in need of help. He kept a large circle of friends and valued his relationships. He backed his words up by his actions, which left a big impact on his many close friends and family. Joe was a man who cared so much. The memory of his loving, steady, and dependable presence will always be cherished, and he will be incredibly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Julie (Scott) White, Cheryl (Jon) Newsom; grandchildren, Alec (Hunter) White, Halee White and fiancé, Korben Rychner, Brendan, Ashley, Samantha, and Avery Newsom; siblings, Peggy Henry, Marsha Thorburn, Phillip (Vicki) King; special friend, Mary Pat Krumlauf; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mary (Jim) Ide, Kathy (Raymond) Sweeny, Jim King, Al King.

All are welcome to visitation at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W Sylvania Ave, Toledo, on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, from 3-8 p.m. Joe's funeral service will take place on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment at Toledo Memorial Park.

Condolences may be sent at walkerfuneralhomes.com, or memorial donations may be made out to Tunnel to Towers in Joe's honor.

I feel as if I knew Joseph well, being a close friend of his sister, for 40 years. I heard many stories I was so grateful to him for bringing his sister to south Florida to visit me. We sat on the patio and listened to the adventure! Great Heart! God is well pleased! Heart felt love to his Beautiful family

I´ll remember the trips we took to Chicago trying to decide if we wanted to make the move with Harbor Funds and then exploring Chicago after the move. Tacos at the train station, half mile walks to get groceries, bike rides, Navy Pier, the dog show, dinners in Oak Park, and more. Chicago was not one of my favorite places to live but Joe´s company, support and humor brightened my days there. Sincere condolences to his family. He was a great guy and a loyal friend who truly loved and cared about people.
