Joseph Lisk Obituary
Joseph "Joe" Gordon Lisk, age 70, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2023, at Flower Hospital. Joe was born on August 17, 1952, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late John and Ruth (Cowden) Lisk.
Joe had a commanding presence wherever he went. It was common for him to start a conversation with people finding out where they went to school or worked. He loved children; he could calm a crying baby every time, hiked little ones on to his shoulders or give them rides on his wheelchair. He tried to make everyone feel welcomed and like they were family.
Joe was a long-time member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where he met the love of his life, Sheila Balduff. They were married in June 1970. Joe began working for the Chessie Railroad in November 1976 and he retired from the CSX Railroad in November 2010.
Joe spent his time taking care of his home, loving his family and "keeping my wife in the lifestyle she has grown accustomed to." His booming voice, huge hugs, and "it's my story and I'm sticking to it!" will be greatly missed.
Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years Sheila; son, Joshua (Rose) Lisk and their children, Lily and Lincoln; daughter, Jeanie Lisk and her children, Logan and Leah High; siblings, Leo (Sue) Lisk, Virginia Papenfuss, Fred (Lynda) Lisk, and Bob (Kris) Lisk; numerous nieces, nephew extended family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth (Cowden) Lisk; daughter, Janett Lisk and his brother, John Lisk.
Family and friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3655 King Road, Toledo, Ohio 43617, on Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 4:00 until the time of his memorial service at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor Kenneth Dantzler officiating.
Because of Joe's great love for children, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
