Joseph David Weisberg

Joseph David Weisberg born on September 3rd, 1941 passed on January 4th, 2021. Joe's significant other Beatrice Ryan, who he shared many years of joy, passed away on December 3rd, 2020. His parents Hortence and Benjamin Weisberg, who he was very close to have also passed. Surviving are his sister Joan, brother Samuel and his double cousin Phil along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who mourn his passing. Along with Joe's father Ben, he had seven Weisberg uncle's who were known for their basketball prowess in Toledo. He was not only proud but also a close connection. Manny, the oldest of the brothers was the first captain of the Toledo University basketball team. Anyone who knew Joe understood that Joe was Joe, and for this insight, here are a few of the many that had things they wanted to say:

Joe Weisberg lived life on his terms. He came from a long line of basketball players. His father and some of his brothers went to colleges where they also played basketball. His father Benjamin through his smile and easy banter made many friends.

Joe paid for law school by working as a "shoe dog" at a shoe store at Westgate. His law associates included Alan Knop, Bill Skow, Tom Schlachter, Marty Dow, Don Cameron, and Paul Frankel as well as others.

He met Bea Ryan, the love of his life, and together they lived more than 25 years. They shared golf, travel, Tippy, their dog, and many happy years with friends and family including Bea's wonderful nieces.

After a lonely two months without Bea, he was cared for by Dora Zaborowski who was an exceptional care giver and watched over by many friends including Barry Fischler and Jerry Jaffe. After many falls and trips to Flower Hospital emergency, Joe was placed at Ebeid Hospice Center on Christmas day.

Joe's kind, loving, gentle, and generous heart has touched many lives. His support and protection eased the struggles of those he helped. Joe is deeply missed.

For those of us who knew and loved Joe, it's because he was Joe. There will never be another one like him. He was one of a kind and they broke the mold after him, let us all remember the good times. The fun we had with him because they were there and they will remain in our memories forever. God bless him and let him rest in peace.

What is a Jojo? Jojo is the definition of uncle, fun, loving, and caring. He had all the fun things and neat places to go. He never forgot a birthday or special occasion. Always calling, sending a card and/or special gifts. Whether it be a toy store at Chanukah time, Toledo Rockets basketball game, or just sharing home cooked meal and conversation, JoJo did it all. He didn't just create memories he created special moments to share and change lives.

Joe, a dear friend, more than anything else, was a friend to so many. There were those he grew up with, colleagues with whom he worked, new friends that he made and a coterie of friends from the synagogue where he was not only a proud member, but a daily presence at the Shul minyan.

Personally, he was a man that I could talk to and confide in.

Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai of theTalmud asked his 5 favorite students "What is the best quality a person should possess?One said: "A good eye" (look at people in a positive light). Another said: "A person should be a good friend." Third said "A man should be a good neighbor." A fourth explained. "A person needs to consider the outcome of his actions. "The fifth student, Rabbi Elazar said: "A person should possess a GOOD HEART." The great teacher explained: "Of all your answers, Rabbi Elazar's is the best answer - a good heart - for within his answer, all of the others are included."

That in a nutshell, was Joe, a man with a heart of gold. We who knew him were blessed for knowing him. He will be missed. Good bye dear Friend may you rest in peace.
