Joseph Whelan Obituary

Joseph Augustine Whelan

October 25, 1956 - December 4, 2024

With hearts completely broken, we announce the passing of our beloved Joseph Augustine Whelan, age 68, on December 4, 2024, in Perrysburg, Ohio.

Born on October 25, 1956, in Willowick, Ohio, Joe was a devoted family man whose life was a testament to love, simplicity, and kindness. Joe leaves behind his devoted wife, Janet (Minoski), and his children Jean (Matt), Jamie (Clay), Mckenzie (Kalani), and Michael. He was the proud grandfather of Layla "Poops", Conner, and Collin. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Marykay (Vic) and Kelly, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Joseph; his brothers, Jimmy and Jack; and his nephew, Victor.

A simple family man, Joe was guided by the principle that he "never needed more than what he had in life." He absolutely adored his wife, Janet, of 43 years. He loved watching the Cleveland Browns on Sundays (especially the Steelers/Browns rivalry) with his only son, hosting friends, and embracing a routine centered on family and health. Joe made a lasting impact on everyone he met, and all who knew him were blessed to share in his warmth and wisdom.

Joe will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and kindness will remain in the hearts of those who loved him. Family will receive friends from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 13, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. To leave condolences for the family, or to order flowers, visit www.MCVfuneralhomes.com.
