Karen Kennedy
1943-2024
As we mark one year since the passing of our beloved Karen S. Kennedy, we remember a woman whose light continues to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Karen passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2024, under the care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio, following a two-year battle stemming from a failed back surgery and other health complications. She left this world just three days shy of her 61st wedding anniversary to her devoted husband, Dennis Kennedy.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, to Marvin L. and Betty (Cupp) Norwine, Karen was a proud graduate of the first class of Northview High School in 1961. She went on to study dental assisting while working at Columbia Gas Co., later dedicating years of care and professionalism to Dr. Henry Cossett in orthodontics, Dr. Richard Koop in ophthalmology, and Helping Hands from 1985 to 1990.
In 1963, Karen married her high school sweetheart at Olivet Lutheran Church. Together, she and Dennis built a life full of love, family, and adventure in Sylvania, Ohio, and later Colorado, where Karen cherished peaceful countryside drives. The couple were active members of the North Cape Yacht Club in LaSalle, MI, for 16 years, enjoying many cherished days sailing together.
Karen was known for her warmth, unwavering positivity, and deep love for family and friends. Her kind spirit never wavered-always seeing the best in others and bringing sunshine into every room. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Karen placed her loved ones above all else and embodied grace and selflessness.
She is deeply missed by her husband, Dennis; daughters, Denise Lynn (Terence) Walsh, of Littleton, CO; and Deborah S. Kennedy, of Toledo; and granddaughter, Nicole Lynn Walsh, of Lakewood, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved twin sister and best friend, Sharen L. (Norwine) Otey.
"I was so lucky to share 61 years with her. High School Sweethearts – Always & Forever."
- Dennis Kennedy
A Celebration of Life was held on December 14, 2024, at Castillo Funeral Home, where friends and family gathered to honor the life of an extraordinary woman. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Visiting Angels for their compassionate care during Karen's final days. Memorial tributes in her name may still be made to these two wonderful organizations.
Though a year has passed, your memory, Karen, continues to guide and comfort us. You were truly the heart of our family, and your legacy of love lives on in all of us.
