Karis Hanifan-Borger Obituary

HANIFAN-BORGER Karis M. Karis M. Hanifan-Borger passed away peacefully July 29, 2007, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 22, 1920, to Herman and Helana (Grimm) Moser of Waterville, Ohio. Karis graduated with the Waterville High School class of 1938. She married Virgil P. "Fudge" Hanifan, her high school sweetheart, on June 23, 1940. Together they built several businesses including Waterville Lumber Company as well as the developments of Bayberry Addition and Orchard View of Waterville, Springbrook Farms of Whitehouse, and Woodbriar Acres of Neapolis. While doing this and raising and showing registered Angus cattle, Karis took her love of music to the airwaves during the 1:45 p.m. Wednesday time slot on WTOL where she sang, played the guitar, and yodeled. She was a very creative, active, and talented woman. During Karis and Virgil's 40 year marriage (before his passing in 1980), they raised three children, Jane, John, and Suzy. To those who knew her, Karis passed on her passionate love of nature-planting trees and flowers, scherenschnitte, writing, quilting, music and singing, painting, and antiquing. For Karis, a job worth doing was a job worth doing well. On April 22, 1989, she married Allen P. "Doc" Borger of Old Lime, Connecticut. They enjoyed each others company for 18 years sharing interests in gardening, traveling, and enjoying the delights of various locals they inhabited, including: Old Lime, Connecticut; Rutland, Vermont; Newville, Pennsylvania and Holland, Michigan. The family feels blessed to have Allen's love, companionship, and devotion to Karis through their life together and most recently through the challenges of Alzheimer's disease. Karis is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Helana Moser; her husband, Virgil P. Hanifan and brother, Marion Moser. Karis is survived by her three children, Jane and William Imes, John and Bonnie (Hertzfeld) Hanifan, Suzy and Kevin Ryley; eleven grandchildren, Karee (Tom) Auth, Bryan Imes, Sarah (Hasan) Tokmak, Jean Imes (David McIntyre), Susan (Ryan) Hanifan, Stephen Imes, Jennifer Imes (Pete LuPiba), Jinny Hanifan, Katie Bialecki (fianc‚ Scott Bylow), John Hanifan, and Meggie Bialecki; five great-grand-children, Leyla Tokmak, Lillian Auth, Morgan Szozda, Eren Tokmak, and Alexander Auth; husband, Allen P. Borger, and his three children, Fern (John) Penicnak, Susan (William) Vanderbilt, and Cathy (Thomas) Mitchell and his eleven grandchildren, Christine, Deke, Helen, and Adrianna Penicnak, David and Heidi Vanderbilt, and Holliann, Timothy, Angela, Rebecca, Michael Mitchell and his five great grandchildren. All are grateful to the influences, gifts, creativity, and energy Karis left with us. Friends may call at the Peinert Funeral Home, 6603 Providence Street, Whitehouse, Ohio 43571 Wednesday, August 1, 2007, from 3 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will begin 11 a.m. Thursday at Wakeman Cemetery on Farnsworth Road, Waterville, Ohio. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association of the Northwest Ohio Chapter, 1-800-272-3900. www.peinertfuneralhome.com

Jane and John:
I am so sorry to read about the loss of your Mom. I have the fondest memories of your Mom, not only as a child, but as an Adult when I would cut her hair. A true "lady's lady"! Thank you for sharing her with the rest of the world.
Much love,

Jane, I fondly remember staying at your house during grade school. Your Mom was always so kind and cheerful and welcoming! I often felt visiting at your home was like a very special retreat. May the comforting arms of the Lord hold you all close to His heart and be with you always. You're in my heart and prayers.

I have many fond memories from the years during college (1956-1961)when I worked for the Hanifins during the summers. I remember Karis as a very involved and talanted lady. We were treated like family. I had and have great respect for both her and Virg.

We'll miss you, "Mom Karis" and "Grandma Borger"! You have had a special spot in my life since I was a little girl playing with Susy, and then you became a part of our family after Fudge died and my mother died, and you married my Dad! We remember the crafts, your creativity, your love of gardens and nature, the fun fishing expedition with our kids, and the fun rhymes, riddles and quotes that you would say at any time or place! The kids always loved your button collection and all of your fun antiques and pictures. You will be missed. We thank the Lord for your life and what you brought to our family. Love you Mom Karis and Grandma!
Love, Cathy, Tom, Holliann, Tim, Angie, Rebecca and Michael

so sorry to hear of your loss, but truly appreciate the local & family history in the obituary. As a Waterville native/amateur geneologist always looking for another piece of the family puzzle, these details are priceless. Feel free to contact me with more family history. Thank you.
