Kathryn Scherbarth Obituary

Kathryn Scherbarth

9/12/1922 - 01/01/2024

Kathryn Jean Scherbarth, 101, of Toledo, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, at Hickory Creek of Athens. Kathryn was born September 12, 1922, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of the late Huber L. and Maude (Matzinger) Henley. She married the late Dr. R. E. Scherbarth on December 24, 1941, and they were married for 62 years until he passed in 2003.

Kathryn was vital in helping her husband grow his medical practice and the internship program at Flower Hospital in Toledo. One of her greatest joys was giving back to the Toledo community. She was a long-time member of the Flower Hospital Auxiliary and took pride in serving at each of the officer positions over the years. She was involved with the Girl Scouts and she volunteered with Mobile Meals of Toledo, well in to her 80's. Kathryn will be loved and missed.

Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Karen S. (Dave Huge) Scherbarth of Millfield; grandchildren, Derek (Megan) Scherbarth, Valerie Babics, and Sarah (Don) Roy; great grandchildren, Amelia, Grayson, Carson, Ariella, and Aaliyah; and sister-in-law, Kay Henley.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Kathy L. Scherbarth; son, Richard L. Scherbarth; brother, Huber "Skip" Henley; and sister, Joyce (Robert) Lowery.

It was Kathryn's wish to be cremated, and no services will be observed at this time. Arrangements are by Souers Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville.

The family suggests donations in memory of Kathryn be made to your favorite Hospice of choice.

Mrs. Scherbarth, Jean, was the the mother of one of my closest high school friends, Kathy, and was our amazing brownie and girl scout leader in elementary school and junior high. Jean and Rollie were also friends of my parents and she was in a bridge club with my mom for years. I have lots of happy memories of her and the family, spending time at their home and from our scouting activities . Karen, I send my deepest sympathy for the loss of you mother as well as Kathy and Richard. May God comfort you and sustain you in your loss.

I was involved with Mobile Meals of Toledo for over 20 years and got to know Jean through MM. As a young 20-something, Jean welcomed me on the Board and was so kind and generous with her expertise and experience. Later, when I became the Executive Director MM, Jean was a wonderful mentor, guiding through challenges that came down the road. I will miss her and her very kind and loving ways.

Dr. Scherbarth delivered me in 1955 as one of his first babies, I believe, and he was my doctor into adulthood. Dr. Henley was my dentist. Such fond memories of going to their practices at Wernert's Corners. Sorry for the family's loss.

Jean served on my Board of Managers at Versailles in the Woods II, Sylvania. She was a great help. She also managed the volunteer office at Flower Hospital. She was always willing to help when needed.
