Kathy Beckman Obituary

BECKMAN Kathy L. Kathy L. Beckman of Oregon, Ohio, passed away January 31, 2008, at University Hospital Case Western Center in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 17, 1946, to Frank and Ruth (McGuire) Michalak. She was a graduate of Clay High School and then became a full time mother until she began working. Kathy was employed as a custodian at the Oregon City Schools for the past 11 years and was formerly employed at the Lucas County Board of Mental Retardation as a teacher's aid. She truly loved her jobs and often spoke highly of them. Kathy enjoyed putting puzzles together, reading, history, and politics. She was a very witty and happy go lucky person who had a nick-name for everyone. But most of all, Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family and will be dearly missed by all. Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Douglas; mother, Ruth Beck; children, Dawn Drake, Paul (Amy) Drake III, Michael Drake, Jill (Bill) Dirlam, Sara Beckman and Dennis Beckman; sister, Patricia (Roger) Pickel; brother, Thomas (Jan) O'Brien and grandchildren, Carrie, Zachary, Benjamin, Paul IV, Noah, and Ryan. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Michalak and step father, Francis O'Brien. Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Monday, February 4, 2008 from 2 until 9 p.m. where funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 until 1 p.m. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Kathy's name are asked to consider the Oregon City School's Special Services Department In Care of Special Education Children. www.egglestonmeinert.com

I am deeply sorry to learn of Kathy's passing. While I have not seen her in awhile, I have many fond memories of her as I was growing up. My mom and Kathy would often chat at the back fence, catching up on all the news. I lost my mom 3 years ago and understand how difficult it is. My thoughts are with all of you.

Sincerely,

Teri (Schmidt) Tomase

I'm so sorry for your loss! Wow, she was such a wonderful lady. She was the janitor at my high school, but more than just that....she was a friendly face in the hallway, a joker, someone nice to talk to, a friend to all of us. I remember everyday before journalism I would see her in the girls bathroom cleaning and we would always talk for quite some time. She was always willing to help someone in need. She will be missed!

Doug and family,

Clay High School will not be the same without Kathy's dirty jokes and funny nick names for everyone. She was possibly one of the funniest people I've known. And who can forget the cell phone with a million billion pictures of grand kids to show off.

I'm so very sorry for your loss and will be praying for all of you. Stay strong and lean on each other. She loved each one of you and was proud of all of you.
