Kermit L. Hoesman

February 29, 1928 - March 14, 2025

Kermit L. Hoesman, age 97, of Woodville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Otterbein Senior Living in Pemberville. He was born in Woodville on February 29, 1928, to Irving and Mabel (Knierim) Hoesman. On June 27, 1953, he married Doris Blausey at Solomon Lutheran Church in Woodville, and together they raised two sons and celebrated nearly 63 years of marriage together before Doris' passing in 2016.

Kermit graduated from Woodville High School in 1946 and from Ohio University in 1950 with a BS in Education. He earned his Master's Degree from the University of Toledo in 1957. He served his nation in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany.

Kermit was a teacher, beginning his career at Riley Township School where he taught for 2 years, followed by 11 years at Woodville High School, and 16 years at Clay High School in Oregon, Ohio. After retiring from teaching, he became a salesman for Seaway Surgical Company of Toledo for 10 years. A man of faith, he was a member of Solomon Lutheran Church in Woodville where he served as a Deacon, an Elder, and President of the of the church. Other memberships included Woodville Kiwanis- serving as President, Woodville Historical Society- also serving as President, Woodville Shade Tree Committee, and 2 terms on the Board of Public Affairs. His greatest passion was spending time with his family, which gave him much joy.

Kermit is survived by his sons, James Hoesman of Virginia, and John (Pamela) Hoesman of Woodville; grandchildren, James Hoesman Jr., Mary Katherine Hoesman, Laura (William) Pfeiffer, Ann Hoesman; and great-grandchild, Calvin. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas (Ruth) Hoesman. In addition to his wife, Doris, he was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and sisters, Mary Shreffler-Owen, Carol Keil, and Eunice Linke.

Family and friends will be received 10-11 a.m., on Monday, March 24, 2025, with a funeral service at 11 a.m., at Solomon Lutheran Church, 305 West Main Street, Woodville, Ohio. Officiating will be Pr. Alan Brown. Kermit will be laid to rest next to Doris in Westwood Cemetery, Woodville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Solomon Lutheran Church or the Good Samaritan Fund.

Mr Hoesman was our Anatomy teacher at Clay High School... I remember him as a patient educator who naturally connected with us.. he also expected a lot out of his students... one of the best teachers I´ve ever had... he was pretty funny too!
