Kevin Mitchell Obituary

Kevin Mitchell

Kevin Scott Mitchell, age 66, passed away on July 21, 2025. Born on May 25, 1959, Kevin, a resident of Rossford, Ohio, lived a life rooted in family, education, community, and the values of mentorship and dedication.

A proud graduate of Sylvania Northview High School in 1977, Kevin was a gifted three-sport athlete who competed in football, basketball, and baseball. He continued his academic and athletic journey at the University of Toledo, where he played football and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education. His passion for teaching and guiding young people led him to a long and fulfilling career as an intervention specialist with Sylvania Schools, primarily at Southview High School.

For 40 years, he was a beloved coach of football, baseball, and especially girls basketball. To Kevin, coaching was about more than the game; it was about instilling life skills that athletes could use throughout their lives. He took immense pride in seeing former players grow into mentors themselves and was always willing to lend a hand on their sidelines.

Kevin's lifetime of contributions to athletics and education earned him a place in the Sylvania Athletic Hall of Fame, where he also served proudly on the board.

In 1986, Kevin married the love of his life, Lauryl (Neitz) Mitchell, in Toledo. Together, they shared a deep commitment to education and both earned their Master's Degrees in 2003. Kevin was an incredibly proud and devoted father to his children, Tyler and Alaina Mitchell. He never missed a game, a meet, or a moment.

After retiring from teaching, Kevin found a new home working with the Toledo Metroparks, where his love for the outdoors and community service came full circle. He loved traveling with his family. His motto, "the best trip is the next trip," perfectly captured his spirit of adventure and optimism.

Kevin was an avid sports fan, loyal to the Detroit Tigers, Green Bay Packers, and Ohio State Buckeyes. He cherished his friendships with colleagues from Southview and lifelong friends from high school; many of whom remained like family.

Kevin is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Lauryl "Laurie" Mitchell; his children, Tyler and Alaina Mitchell; and many cherished brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother, June; and his brother, Roger Mitchell.

Friends and family are invited to gather in celebration of Kevin's life on Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Road, Rossford, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at the funeral chapel the following day, Monday, July 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kevin's honor to the Sylvania Schools Foundation at sylvaniaschoolsfoundation.org.
