LaVon Leonard "Chic" Mack

MACK LaVon Leonard "Chic" LaVon Leonard "Chic" Mack, age 77, of Holgate, Ohio left us to rejoin his beloved wife, Eileen on Friday, July 10, 2009. He was born on January 12, 1932, in Defiance, Ohio the son of the late Leonard and Cecelia (Cussen) Mack and a 1949 graduate of Defiance High School. He married Eileen G. Willitzer on June 12, 1954, and celebrated 50 years of marriage until her death on February 13, 2004. LaVon and Eileen had 9 children, 22 grandchildren, and 8 great- grandchildren. LaVon worked for the Campbell Soup Company as a coordinator for 2 years before becoming a supervisor and then shift manager where he retired after 31 years. He served in the U.S. Army Corp and was a veteran of the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged in June of 1960. He was a member of the VFW Post 8847, the American Legion Post 0340, and the Knights of Columbus. A devout member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Holgate for many years and served as a Eucharistic Minister and answered a calling to become a Deacon, he was ordained on May 15, 1993. He treasured and was blessed by many years of serving the congregation. LaVon enjoyed and valued spending time with his family and was an especially proud grandfather who loved his grandchildren and shared many hours of his favorite pastime of golf and cards, they in turn taught him to love their favorite pastime Wii. LaVon was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen (Willitzer); a son, Dennis and a brother, Lyle. He is survived by four sons, David of Holgate, Donald (Brenda) of Holgate, Daniel (Michelle) of Napoleon, Robert (Sheri) of New Bavaria; daughters, Deborah (George) Wynn of Maumee, Diane Pittman of Paulding, Dolores Bost of Toledo and Patricia (Timothy) Frank of Holgate; brothers, John (Barb) of Defiance, Don (Alice) of Defiance; sister, Dorothy Schelling of Defiance and many beloved grandchildren, great-grand-children, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved his spirit, and we will especially miss hearing about his Saturday night card games with the family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Holgate with Father Stephen Stanbery, officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Friends will be received on Sunday from 6-9 p.m. and on Monday from 2-9 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 316 Chicago Ave. Holgate, where a Wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday. The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be directed towards the Cherry Street Mission or a charity of the donor's choice.
