Sister M. Celeste KASPRZAK

KASPRZAK Sister M. Celeste,OSF 1913-2010 Sister M. Celeste Kasprzak died on February 1, 2010, in her room at Rosary Care Center where she had lived among her Sisters in religion for several years. In her obituary, written in her own hand, she notes that she was the former Helen Kasprzak born to Walter and Stella (Pacholszyk) Kasprzak on December 28, 1913, in Toledo, OH. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Sylvania, OH, on June 28, 1929, from Nativity Parish in Toledo, OH. Her first vows were taken on August 16, 1933 and her final vows on August 17, 1936. Sister Celeste's primary ministry with the Sisters of St. Francis was in the field of elementary education. She was a teacher for a total of 57 years. She taught at schools in Ohio, Michigan and Minnesota. In Ohio Sister taught at St. Mary Magdalene in Rossford, St. Jerome in Walbridge, Our Lady of Lourdes in Toledo and at St. Joseph's in Sylvania. When she was semi-retired she continued to minister at St. Joe's as a teacher's aide, tutor, teacher of Christian Doctrine to children attending public schools, assisted in the library and school office. Sister also taught in Catholic schools in Wyandotte, Detroit and Hamtramck, MI. She spent a few years teaching in Minneapolis and Wells, MN. During her retirement at the Motherhouse in Sylvania, Sister Celeste continued her tutoring at the Tutoring Center on campus and also was a switchboard operator. Sister Celeste will be remembered for her love of children, her compassionate heart and her willingness to help others. Sister will be missed by her loving family and her Sisters in community. She will be welcomed home at 6:00pm on Thursday, February 4, 2010 in a special ceremony in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at the Motherhouse of the Sylvania Franciscans. A liturgy celebrating her life will be held at 4:00pm, Friday, February 5, 2010 in the Chapel. Donations and memorials may be sent to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, OH.
