M. NAROG Obituary

NAROG Sister M. Faber, OSF 1921-2011 Sister M. Faber Narog died on May 1, 2011, at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio, where she resided for the past four years. The former Adeline Narog was born to Joseph and Rozalia Narog on October 6, 1921, in Minneapolis, MN. She professed her first vows as a Sylvania Franciscan on August 18, 1941 and her final vows on August 18, 1944. Sister Faber taught in elementary schools in Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan for 17 years and in high schools in Ohio and Michigan for 13 years. She was principal at St. Ladislaus High School in Hamtramck, MI, for five years before serving as community secretary for the Sylvania Franciscans for 12 years. Besides doing secretarial ministry at the Motherhouse, Sr. Faber was administrative secretary for a parish in Maryland for 11 years and at a retreat center in New Mexico for four years. Before coming to reside at Rosary Care Center, Sr. Faber was the Golden Medallion Club Assistant (a senior citizens group) at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, Texas, a hospital sponsored by the Sylvania Franciscans. Sister Faber will be remembered for her quiet manner and pleasant personality. She was always willing to do whatever needed to be done in the various ministries in which she participated. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting and made many lovely pieces for her family and for the community gift shop. She was close to her family though they lived in Minnesota and she was especially proud of her nephew, Father Michael Joncas, a well-known composer of sacred music. She enjoyed her visits with family and friends and was especially pleased when they would come to Sylvania to visit with her these last few years. Sister Faber will be missed for her lovely smile and Franciscan hospitality by her Sisters in community and her family and friends. Sister will be welcomed home at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, in a special ceremony of remembrance in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at the Motherhouse at the Sylvania Franciscans. Visitors are welcome. Viewing will be held until 9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the funeral at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2011. Donations and memorials may be sent to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio. Arrangements made by Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home, Toledo, Ohio.

Sister Faber was my history teacher and "homeroom nun" my sophomore year in high school. She was the best teacher I ever had, with a command of her subject matter and high expectations of her students, and an "in charge" manner that also was kind. She never played favorites and was fair to everyone. I never told her how much I liked her, and I wish I had. She inspired me to go on and complete a higher education degree successfully. She was a lovely person and a great blessing in my life. Dear Sister Faber, you were an earth angel, and now you are a heavenly one. - JH, former student

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

May 9, 2011

I first met Sister Faber when I joined the Gold Medallion Club here in Bryan
Texas. She was part of the office staff. She was the sweetest person and always seemed to have her hands busy, if not with office work than she was crocheting. We soon bonded over our mutual love of mystery books.
She will be greatly missed by her friends here at St Joseph's Hospital
