WOJCIK Sister M. Emily Sister M. Emily Wojcik, 92, of the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the Motherhouse in Sylvania, Ohio. She was born Stephania Wojcik on September 23, 1916, to John and Sophie (Wojdyla) in Minneapolis, MN. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, OH on August 28, 1931, from All Saints Parish in Minneapolis, MN and professed her final vows on August 18, 1940. Sister Emily earned an R.N. in nursing at St. Francis Hospital and a B.S. in nursing at Mercy College, both in Detroit, MI. She held State Board Licenses in Michigan, Ohio, Nebraska, Texas, and Louisiana. While Sr. Emily prepared for her nursing degrees, she taught at elementary schools in Michigan at St. Stanislaus, Wyandotte, and St. Cunegunda, Detroit, and in Ohio at St. Hyacinth, Toledo, and St. Mary Magdalene, Rossford. After completing nurse's training, Sister began her long career in hospital ministry. Sister served at many Michigan Hospitals including: Holy Cross (St. John NE Community Hospital) and Mercy in Detroit and also St. Francis, Hamtramck. In Ohio, she was staff nurse and Director of Nursing at Gill Memorial Hospital, Steubenville, and supervisor at Providence in Sandusky. Sister Emily was the Director of Nursing at East Carroll Parrish Hospital, Lake Providence, LA and Refugio County Hospital, Refugio, TX. Sister Emily came to Rosary Care Center in 2003 where she lived until her death. Sister Emily leaves to cherish her memory, sisters, Florence Duffy and Melo Davis of Minnesota, and Frances Loranger of Massachusetts, as well as a host of relatives, including many nieces and nephews in several states, many friends, and her Sisters in Community. A Welcoming Service will be held at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, OH at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2009. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Chapel, Sylvania, OH, on Monday, June 1, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania, OH.
