Sister M. Leonilla Zak

ZAK Sister M. Leonilla Sister M. Leonilla Zak, 92, a Sister of St. Francis, Sylvania OH, died January 5, 2007, at the Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, OH. She was born Sally Jane Zak on November 10, 1914, to Michael and Johanna (Wasielewski) Zak in Toledo, OH. On September 7, 1929, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, OH from St. Hedwig Parish in Toledo, OH. Her final vows were professed on August 16, 1938. Sister Leonilla earned her A.B. in Education/Social Studies and a certificate in Theology at Mary Manse College, Toledo, OH. She held an Ohio Elementary Teaching Certificate. Sister Leonilla taught in many elementary schools during her fifty-two year teaching ministry beginning in 1940. In Michigan, she taught at Our Lady Queen of Heaven School, Detroit; St. Ladislaus School, Hamtramck; St. Stanislaus School, Wyandotte. In Ohio, she taught at St. Casimir, Youngstown; St. Casimir, Fremont; Nativity School, Our Lady of Lourdes School and St. Hedwig School, Toledo; SS Peter & Paul School, Sandusky; St. Aloysius School, Bowling Green and All Saints Catholic School, Rossford. She came to the Sylvania Franciscan Motherhouse in 1992 where she taught at the Tutoring Center until 2000 when she began her residence and Prayer Ministry in Rosary Care Center. Sister Leonilla leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Dorothy Mutchler of Holland, OH; her cousin, Rev. Daniel Zak; many nieces and nephews; many dear friends and her Sisters in Community. A Welcoming Service will be held at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, OH on Monday, January 8, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Chapel, Sylvania, OH on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, OH.
