Margaret Doresco Obituary

Margaret Elinor Doresco

Margaret Elinor Doresco, age 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Perrysburg Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Margaret was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, on September 13, 1928, to the late Robert and Matilda Twaddle. Margaret's love story with George began at a baseball game in St. Catharines, where she often went to cheer on her brother, Robert. George, the team's catcher, was immediately smitten and famously followed her bus home on the back of a friend's motorbike. They married on April 1, 1950, and together raised three children, building a life filled with love, friendship, and shared adventures.

In 1970, Margaret and George moved to Toledo, Ohio, for George's work with Dana Corporation, returning briefly to Canada before settling permanently in Maumee in 1977. Their home on Manley Road quickly became a welcoming place, where Margaret formed lasting friendships and a strong sense of community. Even after moving to a new neighborhood later in life, Margaret continued to make new friends. The family is grateful to her neighbors for their care and kindness.

A devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Maumee, Margaret volunteered with the Altar Guild, supported rummage sales, participated in the church book club, and enjoyed museum tours through the church. Her commitment to her faith and the community she found at St. Paul's was central to her life, providing her with strength and joy.

Margaret had an active social life. A longtime Inverness Club member, she was the nine-hole Ladies Golf Champion five times. A passionate gardener and member of the Byrnwyck Garden Club, she was especially proud of her century-old family Christmas cactus. She also supported and volunteered with a number of organizations including the Toledo Symphony League, the Flower Hospital Auxiliary, and the Ability Center.

Above all, Margaret loved her family. She delighted in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She nurtured her friendships through letters and cards; one friend said Margaret "collected people," reflecting her gift for making others feel seen, valued and welcome.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband of 55 years, George Doresco; her daughter, Marcia Bauer; her sister, Maureen Twaddle; and her brothers, Robert Twaddle (Ruth) and Dennis Twaddle (Janet).

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Kathryn Doresco; and her son, Paul Doresco; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Hilts (Matthew), David Bauer, Patrick Tessier, Rebecca Tessier (Denis Zgonjanin), and Emily Waldren (Thomas); and her great-grandchildren, Spencer and Gabriella Hilts, and Winston and Whitaker Waldren.

In accordance with Margaret's wishes, a celebration of life will be held on June 13, 2026, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Toledo Symphony, or the Toledo Museum of Art, on the Walker Funeral Home website.

The family is deeply grateful to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their kindness, compassion, and care during Margaret's final days.
