Margaret Maher Obituary

Margaret "Maggie" Maher

Margaret "Maggie" Iona Maher age 60 of Oregon, Ohio passed away unexpectedly at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center on January 1, 2023. Maggie was born to Eugene and Janet (Conley) Werstler on November 23, 1963 in Toledo, Ohio. She was the 1981 valedictorian of Macomber Whitney High School. Maggie started her career with the YMCA as a camp counselor at Camp Storer and worked her way up to Executive Director at the University Y. While working for Camp Kimball she met her husband Jim 34 years ago by chance when she took an EMT class. In her 28 years with the Y Maggie most enjoyed being a program director for the South Y and working with teens. One of her favorite programs was the Freshman Camp with the University Y. In 2003 she was recruited to Park Church to run their Youth Ministry. Maggie found a home at Park Church and her outreach ministry has flourished ever since. In 2007 Maggie was in a horrible car accident and was left quadriplegic. This did not slow Maggie down and she continued her work with Park Church; keeping her youth groups strong, taking the kids on annual mission trips, and continuing the outreach that has always defined her work. Her motto was "God First, Others Second and I'm Third". Maggie loved seeing the kids she's worked with grow up and she affectionately refers to them as "her kids". Maggie was also blessed to be an aunt to many nieces and nephews and was especially close to her great nieces, Analise and Hensley.

Maggie is survived by her loving husband, Jim; brother, Michael (Cherie) Werstler Sr.; sister, Martha Grabarkiewicz; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephew; special friends, Kelcie Arend and Barbara Specht; best friend, Susan Schindler-Clark; and all "her kids" she's ever worked with and loved. Her parents and sisters, Sheila Werstler and Lynette Busch preceded her in death.

A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S Wynn Rd. in Oregon on Monday, January 8, 2024, from 4 until 9 p.m. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Park Congregational Church UCC 1456 Harvard in Toledo. Memorial contributions are appreciated to Park Church.

Maggie was a true God sent. My children and myself loved and appreciated her so much. My heart is broken, but I know she is in a better place.

Will miss visiting with Margie when she was out in her yard. She was such a nice neighbor and we enjoyed chatting with her. Everett, Diana, and Melissa
