Margaret Shoup Obituary

Margaret May Shoup

11/07/1932 - 11/21/2022

Margaret May Shoup, a.k.a. Margo, Margie, Marge, Maggie, was born in Holland, Ohio on November 7, 1932 to Robert & Helen (Kaczmarek) Zalezynski. Whichever name you knew her by, you had to know she was very proud of her Polish heritage. (Her father immigrated from Poland as a teenager.) Margaret left this earthly life for eternal life on Monday, November 21, 2022 at St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Ohio with her loving daughter, Vicky, and son-in-law, Brad, at her side.

She graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1950, having prepared herself for her life's work by completing a business course, attaining speed of 120 words a minute in Shorthand, along with both speed & accuracy on a manual typewriter. During the last year of school, she worked in the jewelry department of the former Lion Store in downtown Toledo, then briefly taught both Spanish & Hawaiian guitar at the former Bach Conservatory of Music. Her next employment was at the old Flower Hospital on Cherry St. as a secretary to the Assistant Administrator. Following that, she was employed as secretary to the Plant Manager at Kimble Glass Div. of Owens Illinois until the plant closed. Her last employment was double duty as Traffic Manager and Secretary to the President of Conforming Matrix Corporation, retiring in December of 1996 with 40 years of service there.

In her early years, when her fingers where still nimble, her spare time was spent embroidering, crocheting and knitting â€" especially argyle socks for her high school sweetheart, Warren Glen Shoup, whom she married on October 18, 1951. They had three wonderful children whom they were very proud of â€" Becky, Vicky and Warren Geoffrey, who gave them six equally wonderful grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren who affectionally called her "GG".

She liked traveling with her husband, having gone to Hawaii four times and enjoyed being a "snowbird" in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for many winter vacations as well as many bus tours in various parts of the country.

Another of her favorite things to do when younger was bowling, and although she was not a "high roller" was awarded WIBC patches for "triple score" & the "big 4". She was a great lover of a variety of music, flowers and had a knack for writing poetry; although whatever her accomplishments in life may have been, her greatest pride and enjoyment of all was her family.

Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband, Warren Glen; son, Warren Geoffrey; daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Flannery; parents, Robert & Helen Zalezynski; brother, John; and sisters, Frances, Mary and Helen. She leaves behind her daughter, Vicky (Brad) Alexander; brother, Walter (Joan) Zale; daughter-in-law, Pam Shoup; son-in-law, Mike Flannery; grandchildren, Meghan (Brian) Szabo, Dustin (Ali) Alexander, Tara (Brian) Blesener, Garrett (Maely) Alexander, Aubrey and Tyler Shoup; and great-grandchildren, Isabella and Alexandra Szabo, Colin, Ian and Evan Blesener and Ayva, Maise, Duncan, Nicholas and Samantha Alexander; as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her former neighbors, Bill, Sue and Jeff Northrop for being such good, caring neighbors and friends. The care that mom received at Genoa Retirement Village is greatly appreciated.

Visitation for Margaret will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West Street, Genoa, 43430. A funeral mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 300 Warner Street, Walbridge, 43465, with visitation being held from 9-10 a.m. Interment will at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Having been a long time member of St. Jerome Church, Margaret has requested, in lieu of flowers, tributes be made in form of donations to the parish or the American Heart Association.

To My Family:

When I left this world without you

I know it made you blue.

Your tears fell so freely,

I watched, I know this is true

While you were weeping

Days after I passed away

While all was silent within me

I saw you kneel to pray.

You need not be troubled

Just stay close to God in prayer

Someday we'll be reunited

My love, His love, surround you always,

Everywhere!
