Marilyn Solt Obituary

Marilyn June (Smith) Solt

Marilyn June Solt, 89, of Bucyrus, Ohio, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021, in Bucyrus. Marilyn was born on May 3, 1931, in Marion, Ohio. She was the daughter of Curtis E. and (Ruth) Pauline (Kennedy) Smith. She graduated from Mt. Zion High School (1949) and The Ohio State University (1953).

Marilyn married Dr. Robert L. Solt, Jr. in 1955 in Kirkpatrick, Ohio. She taught Home Ecomomics at the Ohio School for the Blind and at Bucyrus High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bucyrus, the Bucyrus Crocus Club, TWIG One and was a manager and buyer for the Bucyrus Community Hospital Gift Shop for many years.

She was very active in her hometown community as a volunteer, devoting her free time to the church, hospital and many other community-oriented projects, too numerous to list. In 2010, she was recognized as a Northwest Ohio Volunteer of the Year. Her passing is truly a loss to Bucyrus and the surrounding community.

Besides devoting her time as a volunteer, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and many devoted friends who hold dear the wonderful fun-filled times they had with her.

Left to mourn her loss are her sons, Robert L. Solt III (Mary Kay) of Holland, Ohio, Timothy S. Solt (Jan) of Pataskala, Ohio; her grandchildren, Robert L. Solt IV (Shannon) of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Monica K. (Nick) Horton of Sylvania, Ohio; step-granddaughter, Erica Moore of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandchildren, Maeve Horton and Lilly Solt; sisters-in-law, Becky Smith and Doris Solt; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob; her parents; her siblings, Barbara (Robert) Doe, and Charles Smith; in-laws, Robert L. and Grace (Rinehart) Solt; and her brother-in-law, Dr. Charles Solt.

A link to Marilyn's funeral webcast can be accessed on the tribute wall of her page at www.wisefuneral.com for those uncomfortable attending in person. Should public wish to attend, her family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:25 am on Tueday, April 27, at Wise Funeral Service with her service to follow at 11:30 am with Pastor Brad Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Bucyrus.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to the First United Methodist Church of Bucyrus, Bucyrus Historical Society, Christ Child Society of Toledo or to an organization of the donor's choice. Memories and photos may be shared on Marilyn's tribute page at wisefuneral.com.
