Mark Schramm Obituary

Mark Schramm

March 25, 1957 - December 20, 2024

Mark Steven Schramm, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away December 20, 2024, at the age of 67, after a brief and sudden illness. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family.

Born in Toledo on March 25, 1957, to Marvin and Jeanette (Tapley) Schramm, Mark attended Longfellow Elementary and was a 1975 graduate of Start High School. He pursued political science at the University of Toledo, and strived to continue learning throughout his life.

Mark married his high school sweetheart, Linda Gedert, in August of 1979. They were together for over 50 years, and married for 45. Their partnership was built on love, friendship, mutual respect, and commitment to one another. They raised two children, Andrew and Heather, creating a happy home filled with laughter. Mark was an incredibly loving father, always supporting school events, serving as a Boy Scout Scoutmaster, helping with the kids' house projects, and bonding over coffee at one of Toledo's local coffee shops every weekend. His kids could not have asked for a better dad.

Mark had a love for camping, gardening, model railroads, and tinkering in his garage.

A man of great work ethic, he spent 20 years with Simon Malls, playing a key role in the success of NorthTowne Square, Woodville, and Richmond malls during the 1990s and early 2000s. For a short time, he also travelled to help start up other malls in Atlanta, Pocatello, and D.C. Later, Mark joined the Toledo Lucas County Public Library system, spending another 20+ years there. He was especially proud of the roses he tended to outside the Point Place branch.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Linda; children, Andrew (Amanda) and Heather; grandchildren, Ethan, Elie, Evan, Jacob, and Phoebe; his cherished dog and granddogs, Penny, Otis, and Prudence; and his sisters, Diane (Rusty) Irons and Deb (Ken, d.) Sear. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marv and Jean.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Point Place. The service will begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by an open-house style celebration from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring Mark's memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mark's memory to the Friends of the Library at the Toledo Library, or to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio's Ebeid Hospice Center in Sylvania.

Mark's silly and sarcastic sense of humor and love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Had I known sooner I would have cam, so sorry to hear, I want to thank your family all because you nominated me for a Daisy and I just got it today. My brief time caring for him left a lasting impression, I just thought of your family this past week. Odd how life works. Sir you were a pleasure to care for.

I went to school, and was in the same 4th grade class as Mark. One day I was sparring with another guy in the bathroom during a break, but Mark thought we were actually fighting! Being a caring guy, this alarmed Mark, and he reported it. This brought on a trip to the principal´s office-LOL-
But I appreciated his sound motives.
Alas, Mark moved to another school after that year...
Years later, I got to meet Mark again, through Diane being good friends with my Gwen.
I wish I could have gotten to know him better-he was a stand-up guy. But I felt the loss of `losing´ him both during my school days And adult years.
These kinds of guys are SO valuable! The world always misses such.
I hope this little story encourages his family, and all of us, about the Mark we leave in the world.

To the Schramm family, Mark and his family lived across the street we all gone to the same school and became friends.
