Martin Bolger Obituary

Martin "Marty" Joseph Bolger

Martin "Marty" Joseph Bolger was born January 7, 1942 to Martin & Betty (Hartley) Bolger, Sr. On June 15, 2021 Marty passed peacefully with his wife, Susan, and son, Douglas, by his side.

Marty and Susan met while teaching at Hamilton School in Toledo, Ohio and would have celebrated 52 years of marriage this coming August. Marty was perhaps best known for being gifted with his hands. It did not matter if the tasks were woodworking, metalworking, operating machinery, or creating stained glass items; Marty was a true craftsman. Marty was the right man for the job for anything that could be constructed or had moving parts needing to be maintained, improved or repaired. Throughout his life, Marty was always ready to offer assistance to those in need, putting his skillful hands to use for others, whether he was paid or not. Marty enjoyed teaching industrial arts to students ranging from those with severe disabilities to high school and adult learners. Additionally, he invested in the lives of young men by volunteering at the YMCA in downtown Toledo. He loved camping, fishing, photography, and taking scenic motorcycle rides. Something few people knew was that Marty learned to cook from his Hungarian grandmother. Later, he enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen with various cuisines. Well-liked by people of all ages, Marty was especially fond of hosting and gathering with family, friends, and fellow church members.

Marty was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio and had recently moved to South Carolina, but his heart was always in the old Birmingham neighborhood of East Toledo.
