Martin LaPointe Obituary

LA POINTE Martin Martin LaPointe, age 69 years, of Erie, MI, died Sunday, April 20, 2008, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, OH. Born February 24, 1939, in Toledo, OH, he was the son of Stanley and Thelma (Cousino) LaPointe. Martin was a lifelong farmer of the LaPointe Farms and was also owner/operator of Erie Tree Service for the past 30 years. He was a member of the BBB of Toledo, Soy Bean Association, Farm Bureau, National Arbor Association and the Liar's Club at the Round Table of Erie, MI. Surviving are his loving children, Mark (Becky) LaPointe of Erie, MI, Michelle (David) O'Neil of Temperance, MI, Michael (Helen) LaPointe of Erie, MI and Marcia (Tony) Schanez of Sherville, IN; 20 year companion, Betty Kremnetz of Erie, MI; sister, Suzanne (Pat) Leibild of Monroe, MI; 14 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Mitch LaPointe, and sister, Sharon Hay. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-9 p.m. Friday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where the rosary will be prayed Friday at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie, MI, where he will lie in state after 10:00 a.m. Fr. Fred Kalaj, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Erie, MI, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Locust and Erie St., Toledo, OH, or the American Cancer Society. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com

Sorry to hear about Martins passing. Will always remenber him bringing his tree trucks in and helping him get the transmissions and power takeoffs doing what he wanted. I will see him again one day.

Martin will be missed by many as he was never at a loss for words or people to talk to. I can remember a trip to Florida with him, we stop at a rest area and a 1/2 hour later he walks out talking to somebody (no idea who) that during there discussion find out they had the same "Barber"!........................ So long and watch over us all.
