Matthew Todd Anderson
04/02/1974 - 07/24/2025
Matthew Todd Anderson passed away from brain cancer at his home on July 24, 2025, in Pasadena, California, surrounded by his family and beloved pets. Born on April 2, 1974, in Toledo, Ohio, Matt's life was marked by deep family connections and enduring relationships that spanned generations.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Samantha, and their daughter, Matisse. Matt's devotion to his family was a constant throughout his life. He is also survived by his father, Robert (Vickie) Anderson; his mother, Elizabeth Stein; and his grandmother, Bernadine (Bea) Anderson. His sisters, Kristine (Robert) Kegerreis and Leslie (John) Lynch, shared meaningful moments with him throughout the years; and he had an especially deep bond with his sister-in-law, Nicole Glassman (Juan) Jones, with whom he shared many wonderful memories. Matt will be missed by nieces and nephews, Joshua, Charlotte, John, Sarah, and Oliver. He will also be remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, who were part of the extended family that enriched his life. Matt also shared a special bond with childhood friends, Greg Carter and George Cole, which he was able to maintain over time and distance.
Matt attended elementary school at Gesu, and graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School, in 1992. At the age of 18, Matt moved from Ohio to California, where he eventually met the love of his life, Samantha. They were married in 2006, and later blessed with their daughter, Matisse. Together, Matt and Samantha enjoyed traveling, concerts, the beach, and many dog-fostering shenanigans. As a father, Matt took great pleasure coaching Matisse's soccer team, watching her dance routines, and sharing kitchen catastrophes, among many other shared experiences.
He was a hard-working man who took great pride in the management of several restaurants in the Los Angeles area over the years, including The Jonathan Club as Banquet Director, Los Angeles Athletic Club as the Food and Beverage Director, LAX Hilton and Universal Hilton as the Food and Beverage Director/Profit Center Leader. He had a wonderful team of co-workers and employees whom he considered family. Ever the host, Matt loved what he did, and always wanted to ensure everyone was enjoying themselves.
During Covid, Matt found himself with extra time on his hands. Not being an idle man, he found himself at a hardware store, picked up a tool, and thought "I wonder what I can make with this?" Matt found he greatly enjoyed crafting things with his hands, and became rather good at it. He especially liked being able to make something useful for his family. Pieces he was particularly proud of were a picnic table, outdoor lounge chairs, props used for Matisse's dance recitals, and an outdoor one-room dance studio for Matisse so she had an alternate place to practice.
Matt was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harold (Jack) Anderson; grandparents, Thomas J. and Barbara Stewart; and stepfather, Donald Stein.
A memorial service to honor Matt's life was held in Pasadena, California, with his family and friends in that area. An additional Memorial Gathering will be held on September 6, 2025, from 1:00-4:00 p.m., at Brick House Commons, at 3535 N. Holland Sylvania Road, Toledo, OH. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
Those wishing to honor Matt's memory are invited to make a donation to The Uncle Kory Foundation (
