George and Connie,

Ron just told me about Matt’s passing. I am very sad to hear this news. While I did not know Matt, I remember the things you used to tell us about him, George; and, it was always clear that he meant so much to ya’ll. There’s not much anyone can say or do to ease the pain you feel right now; but, I’m holding you both in my heart and hoping all the thoughts and prayers of your friends and family bring you some comfort.

To the Bowie Family and Korfel Family:

Dear Bob, Connie, Linda, Tony, Lisa, Lindsey, Delaney, and Maria:

I have just today learned of Matthew's passing. I can barely find the words to express my deep sorrow for the loss of your son, brother, and father. I will fondly remember Matthew as the kind and nice young boy on South Avenue.

I cannot possible imagine or comprehend the sorrow his loss has brought to all of you. Matthew will always be remembered and missed by all who loved him. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss.

May God comfort you during you hour of grief.

Patrick Ryan

P. S.

Bob and Linda, I thought I would share this prayer with both of you which was printed on the back of George J. Ryan, Sr.’s funeral prayer card. I am certain that our departed family and friends would share these sentiments toward us.

May the road rise to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face.

The rains fall soft upon your fields.

And, until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bowie family in their time of need. What a tragic loss, a great piece of the world passed with Matt. What I will remember most are our conversations that lasted into the early morning hours about his "calling" to the armed forces to defend freedom. You will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Bowie family during this tragic time in their lives.

Death is the mother of beauty.
~ Wallace Stevens

Death, like birth, is natural. Our feelings about it aside, death is not a mistake that can be avoided or an outrage that should be protested. Death is a part of life - it is the last stage of living. By completing the process began at birth, a person's death makes his life whole.
Our grief at the death of a loved one is also normal and natural. And dealing with the sadness of our loss is also a process - a process that, over time, is ended and made whole. Grief is extremely personal; no two people grieve the same way and for the same length of time. Different people's reactions can never be accurately judged or compared.
No matter what our beliefs about an afterlife, there are two unromantic but practical truths that can help anchor us when we are bereaved. One is that the person who is dead has no problems - our problem is our own sense of loss. And the second is that acceptance of death, like acceptance of our past, is the way of the wise.

With deepest sympathy, the Lutz Family
