Matthew Savord Obituary

Matthew Savord

April 14, 1994 - July 20, 2024

Matthew (Iccee) Savord, was a fierce, strong-willed man who was loved deeply by his family and the community who raised him. Matthew passed away after being fatally struck by a vehicle on the Ohio Turnpike on Saturday, July 20.

Matthew was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 14, 1994 and adopted by his parents, Peter and Kathy Savord. An active, creative, and imaginative child, Matthew would often be found playing Star Wars with his older sister Mary-Pat or "Monster" with his dad. Additionally, he adored Bear, his stuffed animal from early childhood, and would take Bear on all his adventures, even into adulthood.

"Matthew loved 100%," his sister said. He was protective of his family, and when he was in, he was ALL IN. He enjoyed connecting with people and wanted to be a good friend. He loved to camp, visit new places, travel to see his family, listen to music, and laugh at funny videos.

Matthew is the epitome of the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child." At an early age, Matthew was diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Bi-Polar Disorder, and later with Schizophrenia. He struggled and persevered through many hardships with the help of a deeply committed family who advocated passionately for mental health services and support throughout his lifetime. In addition, an extensive community helped raise Matthew and loved him for who he was, and the family is and will be forever grateful for all the support and love they have received. The family would like to specifically thank Sunshine Children's Home for being instrumental in Matthew's early childhood, Cindy Kline for supporting him throughout his education and being the key to his graduating high school, and John Grant for helping him find his footing in adulthood.

Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Peter, and grandparents. He is survived by his mother, Kathy; sister, Mary-Pat (Gabriel); and numerous extended family members.

A visitation will be held at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., Toledo OH 43614 on Sunday, July 28 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Corpus Christi University Parish, 2955 Dorr St., Toledo, OH 43607 on Monday, July 29 at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be private.

The family requests any tributes be made to You First by Grant Services or Sunshine Children's Home. And mostly, the family requests you honor Matthew by sharing kindness with another, as Matthew taught us that we are all deserving of unconditional kindness.
