Michael Fiore Obituary

Dr. Michael A. Fiore

We are sorry to announce the passing of Michael A. Fiore Jr. on July 7, 2020. Mike passed away in Sleepy Hollow, NY - the town he retired to - due to complications from surgery. Because of the Covid regulations in place at the time of his passing, Mike's service and burial (which took place in New York) had to be held privately, with family only.

Mike was raised with his brother Albert in Jersey City, New Jersey by Bess (nee Zwillman) and Michael Fiore Sr. - all of whom predeceased him. His medical residency brought him to Toledo but his love of the city kept him there. He opened his obstetrics practice and, for 40 years, Mike delivered babies at both Toledo and St. Vincent's Hospitals. He would always say that the wonder and joy of bringing a new life into this world never ceased to amaze him. He would joke that he was getting old when he started delivering the babies and grandbabies of the patients who came to him early in his career. But he never looked his age because he was one of the fortunate ones for whom work never felt like work, and his work made him happy. When not working, Mike enjoyed many artistic outlets: gardening, ceramics, painting, drawing, singing and playing the piano. His gardens were extensive. He had an eye for planting and colors, and he knew what and how to plant, in order to have constant blooms throughout the growing season. He was extremely proud of and successful with his roses. Ceramics started out as a hobby and a way to relax, but he demonstrated skill in the art form and was soon spending more time creating pottery and renting space at the studios at the Toledo Museum of Art – in order to be able to take some lessons and connect with other artists. His hobby became more than that and he began displaying his work at art shows – selling his ceramics and winning awards for his work. When he retired and moved to New York, he took up water color painting and began taking classes to get even better. He was also a good cook - his specialty was his pasta sauce, which he simmered all day. Mike loved to laugh - he always had a twinkle in his eye - like he just heard the best joke or was about to share one. He loved good food, good company, and he loved his family - who miss him dearly.

He is survived by his wife Jasmine; and sons, Paul and Dan all of Sleepy Hollow, NY; his daughter Angela Holton and her husband Rob and their children; his beloved grandchildren, Katie and Lindsay of Mamaroneck, NY; and his daughter Maria and her children; his beloved grandchildren, Ben and Sarah of New Hartford, CT.

It is hard to encapsulate a person's life and their impact on others in just a few words and our grief still makes it hard for us to express all that he is and was to his family and the lives of the people he touched.

To ease our pain, we have been planting trees and roses in his memory. So, if he touched your life, please consider planting a rose bush (his favorite was Rosa Peace) or planting a tree (Pink Flowering Dogwood was his favorite) in his memory or by making a donation to your favorite charity.

Soooo sorry to hear of Dr. FIORE'S passing. As a young girl growing up in Toledo, he was my physician and I was scared to death (1st Dr. Experience). He was a Great Physician and 60 years later, I never forgot Dr. Fiore. My deepest sympathy to the family, as he was a beautiful person. Sincerely
