Michael "Micki" Lee Ortyl
Michael Lee (Micki) Ortyl, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
He was born on February 8, 1941, to Walter and Isabel (Rucki) Ortyl, in Toledo. Growing up in the North End's old La Grinka neighborhood, Micki attended Woodward High School. He enlisted in the National Guard and then the U.S. Army, being stationed at Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii, 69th Armor, attached to 25th Infantry.
After the military, Micki was employed with GM Powertrain (Chevrolet Toledo) for 34 years, retiring in 1996. Enjoying classic cars, he was part of the crew that helped form the Park and Shine car show at GM, starting in 1988, going for 33 years. Being the largest car show in Northwest Ohio (2,000 plus cars) it occurred every year in September. He was known as Mr. Nova, a car guy through and through; having many classic cars over the years, mostly Novas, that he enjoyed working on and showing, especially his 67 Nova and K5 Blazer. Micki was an avid gardener and a big fan of the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Lions. He loved boating and was an advocate for saving Lake Erie. Micki was a member of the American Legion Post 0468 and the Moose Lodge in Sylvania. He was very proud of his Polish heritage and enjoyed attending the festivals during the summer. He also enjoyed listening to Classic Rock and oldies Doo-wop.
Micki is survived by his loving son, Randall (Linda) Ortyl; daughter, Tracey (Greg) Thorpe; son, William (Julie) Ortyl; grandchildren, Brandon (Monica) Maier, Malisa Ortyl, Cory (Jennifer) Thorpe, Stephen (Lexus) Thorpe, Jordan (Amanda) Ortyl, Travis Ortyl; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Deborah (Charles) Miller; nephew and Godson, Zach (Kayla) Miller; niece, Alana (James) Miller; significant other of 23 years, Sally Clarke Dougherty; many dear cousins and friends; and special companion, his dog, Rain.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Ortyl; former wife and mother of his children, Sharon Grosteffon.
The visitation will be held at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main Street in Sylvania, Ohio on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., when the funeral service begins.
