Michael Thomas Thacker

Michael Thomas Thacker of Toledo, Ohio passed away on August 6, 2021 surrounded by his family.

Mike was born on January 6, 1948 to Blaine and Mary Thacker. Mike graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1966.

Mike married the love of his life, Cheryl Snead, in July of 1968. The Family they created in the proceeding 53 years included 2 daughters, Amy (Rick) Krueger and Michelle (Steve) Serr; and 1 son, Jeff (Nicole) Thacker. They have 8 grandchildren, Cassidy, Gillian, Chase, Tristan, Daxton, Austin, Kaidyn and BreAnna. Plus, one great-grandson, Grayson.

After marrying Cheryl, he went to work for her families landscaping business. He worked for Snead Landscape for 11 years before taking a position at St. Vincent's Hospital in 1978. He worked for over 30 years at St V's finally leaving with the title of Director of Grounds and Security. While at St V's not only did Mike make life long friends but he also had a few really cool experiences. Two of his favorite stories were his meeting NFL superstar Walter Payton while transporting him to a guest speaking event and aiding in transporting of the giant pandas to the Toledo Zoo in 1988.

Mike believed himself to be a part time comedian. Always wanting to joke with or prank those around him. He had the special ability to find humor in almost any situation. Mike was also extremely passionate about University of Michigan Football. Although his favorite sporting events had nothing to do with the Wolverines and more to do with whatever one of his grandchildren were participating in. Anyone who knew Mike knew that he was the most loving father and husband but he took to being a grandpa like it was his calling.

Mike was preceded in death by both his parents, Blaine and Mary Thacker; his sister, Kathy Snyder; and brother-in-law, Ron Snyder. He is survived by his loving wife, children, grandchildren; his brother, Joe (Pam) Thacker; and sister, Cindy (Jim) Jackson; and numerous nephews and nieces.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers you make donations to Ohio Living Home, Health and Hospice. There will be a greeting and service at Christian Fellowship of Toledo, 6711 Pilliod Rd., Holland OH 43528 on Saturday, August 14th at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.
